Power Rear Window Shade
Has anyone had problems with the shade not fully retracting?
Periodiacally it get's "bunched up" near the end and doe not fully roll up.
If so has it been a recurring problem?

I have had an occasional problem of bunching, too. It seems to occur in two situations: if I leave the shade up overnight, or if it is cold outside and the shade is up for an hour or so. Repeated cycling up and down seems to clear it, and it appears that when the bunching occurs the shade has retracted more fully on the passenger side than the driver's. Occasionally the shade frame will hang on the driver's side then pop into the slot. I have not been to the dealer about it yet (November delivery) since it has resolved itself by cycling it. I notice there are two bolts below the rear shelf that go through to the trunk, but it's not clear that they permit the shade unit to be removed via the passenger compartment. I had an '01 C320 with a shade, and there were no problems, however the mechanism was different and the slot in the shelf did not have as close a tolerance. It appears that the retracting spring needs an extra twist. If you take yours to the dealer sooner than I do, let me know.

I had a rear window sunshade in my CLK430. That thing was a pain in the ***...besides showing your friends for the first time, its not worth it. One of the first times I ever used the thing it fell off the track!! Mine used to bunch up once in a while....but like Jim256 said all I had to do was make it go up and down a few times. I opted not to get it in my order for the E55. I think it might cool down the car somewhat in the summer time...but really now....how much could it possibly help???

I have the rear shade on my E500. To me its a waste of money. I've only used it once or twice during the 7 months i've had the car! I would not purchase it again. No bunching on the couple of times i did turn it on.

It is useful in Southern California. Although if the car I selected didn't have it
I wouldn't have missed it.
Then again I get more use out of it than my NAV system !

Actually I use it ALL THE TIME.. and (knock on wood) haven't had any "bunching up" problems..
It helps keep direct sunlight in the car to a min from the rear.. BUT the heat will still be there. I use it to help "shade" my son when he's in his car seat.
I also LOVE to use it to show off to "annoying" tailgaters. Sort of like "I want my privacy now. Thanks. Go away!" once the shade it up.. they get the hint and then back off. =) Or vice versa.
I added the side manual sun blinds on my NAV replacement.

PS: Who's yo' daddy!! LOL!! Just had to do that! =) Sorry.

I have only used it twice since I have had it, and it did "bunch up" both times when it was retracted. I have dark tint on the rear window, so I really don;t need it, but I tried it out of curiousity. Another feature I have never used on the car is the heated headlight spray washer feature. It literally never does rain here in S. California, so I don't really think I ever will.

I love mine...
No problems. Combined with a front and side shades, it really helps keep the car much cooler when parked.
It also helps to keep the sun off the rear passengers without affecting rearward vision too much.
Cheers!

No probls
No prob with mine. I use it 1-2x/day, either to keep sunglare off, privacy from tailgaters (kind of a head's up, I know you're there, I'm not getting out of your way so chill or go around me), or to help lessen the glare (combined with my anti-glare rear-view mirror) from highbeams or truck headlights at nigh.
YMMV,

Thanks All.
Seems that consensus opn the bunching problem is that it happens of you leave the shade opened for lon periods of time (i.e. overnite) but the problme cures itself with "cycling" the shade. That has been my experience too, so I'll hold off on a visit to the dealer for now.
