Not Satisfied w/ exhaust options for E500

I have been looking for an exhaust system for my E500 for a while now and am really disappointed by what I have found. I would think that getting a 5.0L V8 mercedes engine to ROAR shouldn't be that difficult. I have seen all the exhausts clips on youtube and they just dont cut it, especially for the price they paid. The nicest sounding notes I heard were Brabus and Renntech, but even they (despite the outrageous prices) sounded a bit weak. My buddy has a bmw 545i which has a smaller engine than my e500 and his exhaust rips! Ill show you guys a little example of what I am talking about. Both cars in these videos have basically the same setup; Magnaflow cat back system with Eisenmann Tips. (this setup runs about $1500)

The E500:

The 545i:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je0roKsz-EM

The 545i actually sounds like he spent $1500 on his exhaust... The E500 just sounds ****ty.. Heres another video of a different E500 with an even more expensive exhaust. This guy has a Meisterschaft GT Exhaust system installed which sounds unbelievable on EVERY mercedes... but the e500! All you can hear is the whine of the engine and very little exhaust.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS9vS6-jJbo

I am looking for an exhaust that gets rid of that annoying engine whine and throws out a gnarly 5.0L V8 roar.. I know I am rambling but the engine whine really bothers me. I dont even undertand why the e500 is the only mercedes that it is so noticeable. I mean the same 5.0L M113 engine is under the hood of quite a few other mercedes too, but the e500 seems to be the only one stuck with the whine.

Any thoughts? What causes that whine anyways?

that is why you get your exhaust made to your specs for half the price of one of those systems. there is countless exhaust threads with a lot of ideas you could use. look for a local exhast shop that you trust and take them your items with an idea of what you want.

just an example that might sound nice

200 cell metallic core secondary cats

x pipe in place of resonators

or

magnaflow muffler in place of resonators leading straight to tips if you are looking for sound

hopefully someone else can chime in with some info. i would post a vid but i am still collecting parts for my exhaust setup. good luck!

There's just not much that can be done to these cars, to make them sound good and not drone.

On my E500, I ended up doing headers, 2nd cat removal, resonator delete and replaced with x-pipe, and OEM E55 mufflers. Here's a few crappy clips, but you get the idea. We ended up putting the headers on in my buddy's driveway (MB Master Tech) You can hear the diesel idling....that's not my car.

But honestly, after listening to DJRabbi's clip above, I think his sounds better. I wonder if it drones though. It was VERY important to me, not to have any drone inside the cabin.

Mine doesn't drone but since I have straight pipe, it vibrates the cabin a lot more in idle. I might put x-pipe or put OEM reasonator back on

Damn thats one of the throatiest E500s I have ever seen. Did you just buy a c63 exhaust from someone and install it?

I would go to a custom shop and have them build one for me but i wont know what it will sound like till its already installed. I want to find a legit setup that someone has and copy it. Headers are wayyy to expensive for what they are, its unfortunate. Plus I dont have an AMG bumper and I am planning on hiding the pipes anyways. Keep it clean with loud exhaust !

Did you put in all new pipe from where the resonator was removed back to the exhaust? What size piping was used?

so you just added the C63 exhaust to the stock piping and removed the resonator? did you feel any low end torque loss doing this?

I picked up a SL55 exhaust and was trying to decide whether to just hook it up to the stock pipe or new larger pipes.

you'll probably need the resonator back on to have a little more backpressure.

you have a stock e500 with c63 mufflers and resonator delete in the video?
