E500 to AMG Style

Hi guys! First I want to start by saying that I am not trying to be a poser. I do have an E500 but love the AMG styling. I would like it to look like the E55. I did look on the forum, but could only find the E63 conversion threads. I am not doing anything too drastic to my E500 and I know that MB sells their regular cars with AMG styling, so I am not about to commit conversion No-No.

Now here is my question, I would like to possibly change the front and rear bumpers to the AMG style. I actually like the look of the E55. So with that said, would anyone be kind to direct me to a DIY if any for a E500 to AMG (E55) conversion. Would the E55 bumper fit on my E500? Would I need to get the different moldings? I know that I will have to get new fog lights and the lower mesh grills, but will that be it? MB World, please help this non-poser. LOL

Thanks

You pretty much just have to get the cosmetic parts that you mentioned. The moldings are same so you can reuse the existing ones. If you really want to complete the look, you may want to get the side skirts too. The OEM ones are not cheap so depending on your budget you may skip those. I believe there are some minor modifications needed for some of the mounting points on the bumper covers. If you are getting a used rear bumper, make sure that you also get the valence.

Another thing to remember is that if you install the E55 rear, then you'll need to install quad tips. An alternative would be to use the AMG Sport rear which only requires single tips on each side.

It should be a direct fitment for the conversion. Check this forum, Benzworld, Craigslist and Ebay for E55's that are being parted out. E55 parts, like front and rear bumpers should fit w/o modification. E63 Parts wont fit unless you get a new grille. You will need to get amg exhaust tho becasue of the rear diffuser. There are also quite a few E55 "style" front and rear bumpers on Ebay. They are not OEM AMG parts, but they look just as good and probably more unique. Most of the real OEM AMG bumpers will include fog lights and grille. Some people take them off to put aftermarket body kits on and sell their OEM ones. !Just please dont put E55 or V8 Kompressor Badges ON!

The Quad exhaust is about $700 ...... the total cost of converting with front rear bumper and exhaust will cost around $2000 or maybe more because you need to paint them if not the same color. if you have 03 E500 i think the best way is sell it and buy a 04 or 05 with AMG pakg which is also more reliable than 03. IMO

Thanks for the info guys! I can always rely on you all. CharlyE500, I would like to get a newer car, but I just paid this one off and I am going to be going back to school, so I would need to not have a car payment for a couple of years. I agree that the '03 E500 is not too reliable, but I am stuck with it and would at least mod it to look better...not that its not a bad looking car, I just think that the AMG styling makes it look more aggressive. Oh yea...I will never put the E55 or V8 badges on it. Thats just asking to be spanked by Bimmer guys. I will never do that to you true E55/63 guys. Thanks again!

I have an 03 E500 and have not had any serious problems. The electronic system is the only thing that has quarks. Engine, chassis and everything is the same on 03-06. I believe the only real difference is they switched command units and some wiring. There is not going to be a reliability differences with the engine if you are comparing an 03 and 05 in similar condition with the same amount of miles. My 03 just hit 38,000 miles yesterday and the only thing it needs are standard maintenance parts. Unfortunately for me, my warranty ran out in 07 so I have to pay for all that out of pocket. Does anyone know if there is an extended maintenance package from MB that I would be eligible for?

Same here. Mine has 47000 miles on it and I have had to replace both front air struts (arnott) and replaced the airmatic compressor. I have an SBC visit workshop code for the brake system, but I'm glad it's under the 10 year warranty. I do have a slow leak in my airmatic system and when I finally get to San Diego (I'm currently in Guam on military orders) in December, I will take it to a MB dealership to find out where the leak is. Other than that, it's been a good car to me.

your in guam? My boy is in Guam too in the Navy! Those parts are supposed to fail at around 40-45k and be covered by the warranty. I need new ball joints, brake pads, rotors and suspension links... FML. The warranty would have covered it, but nope. MB should remove the time limit on warranty or at least extend it a ton. Warranty should be up when the car hits a certain millage, dont punish me cuz I like to keep my baby fresh w. low miles.
