Now for the awakening!
My wife picked up her brand new loaded 2012 C250 Sport Sedan and guess what? It has the new navigation system and it's light years ahead of mine! I feel cheated to say the least! Now only that, her's receives and reads out loud, text messages!!!! And, she also has the "cup of coffee" wake up notice on her system. Couple that with awesome 3-D navigation and the very cool instrumental graphics and it is worth the cost to upgrade, whatever that is. I'm really bummed that it's not in my "new car"!! What's even more amazing is that the service writers and sales people at the dealership didn't even know the text messaging was available. I registered with Navtect to be notified when an update came in. Just FYI for anyone that is interested. Thanks!
Thanks for ruining the GLK experience for all of us.
What you are seeing in your wife's C250, several of which were parked near our GLK when we took delivery recently, obviously is a complete redo of the system level programming. You do have the very latest map software from Navteq for THE GLK. We may NEVER be able to migrate the GLK system to the one your wife has in her C250. Frankly, after several failed attemps to like the C-Klasse sedans/coupes, I would Never Ever trade down from the GLK to the C-Cars just for the infotainment system.
That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Finally found a C-Based vehicle that Mrs. Wayne & I can agree on in East Texas.

Ha Ha! I was actually told that the new upgrade next year will incorporate the 3-D graphics and hopefully the text messaging, which I think is a great addition. I actually don't think going from a GLK to a C250 (which I'm not considering) is a tradiong down. Her new C-250 Sport is a world class car with the new supercharged engine and the upgraded (similar to an S-Class) interior. And, afterall, the GLK is actually built on a C-class chassis. The truth is that I actually think the GLK is a downgrade from my previous E-classes, but like in your example, its not comparing apples for apples as one is a car and one is an SUV. I didn't like the M-Class and didn't want to spend the money for the G-Class--but I wanted an SUV. And, I love it! The GLK is a great SUV and handles great on the rainy freeways of So CA! That's my story and, I'm sticking to it! LOL

Cool

It all depends on what you are used to. In our case, coming from a 1989 Trooper II, a 1999 Volvo S70 & a 2004 Volvo XC70, any of the C-Class cars were a step in the wrong direction. That is not a knock against the cars. We are used to more car. In fact, while everything about driving the GLK is first rate, it is no match for the cargo hauling ability of the XC70. Fortunately, we are keeping the XC70.

I agree with you in the same mind set as the C-Class is not an E-Class or an S-Class, but it is a hell of a car and my wife loves it. I much preferred the E350's to the GLK but like I said, I've had 5 in a row and I've never had an SUV; and this is kind of a "boy-toy" (with class) for me. Tired of always borrowing someone's truck or suv to haul something, or worse yet, using my E-Class trunk as a truck. We are fortunate that we can get whatever we want (nice part about owning a corporation) but I didn't want a bigger SUV and love the looks of the GLK. I also love the C-Class as it is (like a GLK) -still a Mercedes no matter how you look at it. In the perfect world, I'd be hanging out driving my SLS one day and my Range Rover the next, and God knows what the following day--do love that SLS though!

PS: you know Venchka, I've been thinking about your statement and considering your normal good advice and comments, I'm a little amazed that you would consider going from a "1989 Trooper II", or a "1999 Volvo S70" a "step down" to any new 2012 Mercedes model, C-class or not. Not a typical statement from most MB owners on this site. Still to each his own. Have a good evening.

I think this is the crux of the issue. I don't think he is substituting "more" for "better". For him, it seems, size matters.

well it seems MB is finally upgrading their nav system, my brothers new 2012 ML is, does everything you expect without the quirks of our system. Hopefully that means a system update disc will be out for the older cars like our W211.

The changes you mention are not a function of any NAV update disc. Our NAV units will never be upgraded. MB will provide parts/units for repair, but thats all. There will be map updates only from Navteq.

Don't hold your breath for updates to Windows 95 either. They're both oudated and out of production, with no new R&D developments coming to them.

My 05 e500. I've never done an update on my Nav, but have considered doing it . Other than a few extra streets added.. is there anything better about the updates? I've noticed a few people on Media Master's have uploaded the v.11 DVD, and I'm thinking of burning a DVD and installing it since it's free. I rarely use my Nav. So if it just adds some streets then I probably wont even mess with it.

I clicked "disregard" to have a look and didn't see anything that described v11 in the topic. Also, the files were "exe" which is VERY supicious. Should just be a plain ISO. I passed, but thanks for the effort

I'll delete the link then. I'll go ahead and download it and try it out on my car, and if it's all good I'll make my own download page and post it here.

Sounds like a plan...thanks. Just be aware that you may also need a service cd update for that big a jump in versions.

There has been a lot of discussion about the difference between a map upgrade and a software change to improve nav performance. Is that something that MB actually does? In the past have they released software to improve the performance of an existing, previous model year nav system? Or are we asking for something that is not in their business model?

I remember 2 updates to improve operation, both between 2005 & 2007. One did nothing I could detect except possibly clear up an occaisional screen freeze up on some peoples displays, the 2nd added ETA to the bottom of the screen which allowed you to select that or the display your current location in lat & longitude. These updates were buried in the map data Navteq discs & preceded the installation & reboot of the NAV drive.

On some peoples cars the Navteq disc they were trying to install was too big a jump ahead from the hardware's operating software. In that case the MB service department had a disc that updated the firmware to a later version so the Map data disc would load & operate properly.

Don't expect any more improvements in the operation/performance of our obsolete/discontinued/out of production NAV units from MB. There is no more R&D taking place on our units. Do expect Map DATA updates from NAVTEQ.

Disc W211-589-16-22-00 is no longer available. It is difficult to find one.

The disc has not been superseded either.

I do no want to steal the disc or anything but all I need is the system update, and as indicated above from MBtech1098 I can not find the system disc either through my brief search. The disc according to the PDF only cost $12 so it is not much but hard to find, does anyone mind sharing the system disc they have? it could easily be passed along since you only need to use it once to update your system.
