Worth mentioning. Keyes Mercedes in van nuys is where I got mine fixed. Hitchinshouse got his fixed at mercedes of calabasad. So these 2 are confirmed dealers that know about PZEV warranty.

But I wish I had gone to calabasas and seen Elvis. He seemed like a really nice guy that knew what he was talking about.

jandmtv, not sure what flood gates you expect to open. PZEV warranty only applies in the 10 states that follow California standards. California being the largest market. The car must have been sold in and currently registered in a state where the PZEV warranty is in force. What I find interesting is the reluctance of California dealers to repair the problem and their supposed ignorance of the PZEV warranty. My sister lives in Vermont, and experienced this issue. As per PZEV the dealer replaced the entire tank, sending unit etc. No bull from the dealer about it not being covered. It also didn't take 21days.

Even in states where PZEV applies, they have been telling people that it's not covered. But now that they are being made to rethink their decisions. For the other states, well, sorry.

Yeah, the dealerships are a joke. However, good to know I don't have to pay a dime to have PZEV components replaced.

In the long run my tank not being replaced is no big deal to me. If it leaks again I'll just bring it back in and have it repaired for free. In the long run the dealers are hurting themselves. I'm hoping it takes another 21 day repair job. I'll get to drive a new MB for free again. Let's just say the last loaner redlined a few times and lost a few MM of tire tread. All this while my car took a nice nap.

Just got the "Customer Satisfaction Survey" email from Mercedes.

Let's just say I told them the truth about the way they're handling the known fuel leak. I also let them know about the half-a** PZEV repair they did on my car. Peace!

Fuel smell after fill up

I'm having the same issue with fuel odor after fill up and am going to file a complaint. Should I take it in to the dealer for diagnostic before filing a complaint?

^file that complaint. If you have a fuel smell when you're above 3/4 of a tank, welcome to the fuel leak club. Keep us posted on what the dealership tells you too. Good luck!

Leaking sending unit

I have a new to me 2006 E350 with a leaking sending unit. Just filed a compliant with NHSTA, ODI number 10565450. I'd post pics of the puddle, but it probably doesn't look much different from all the others (although I did take some for reference)...

Mercedes 2003 E320 Sedan
2003 E320 Sedan Gas Fumes

I have a 2003 E320 Sedan, I can smell very strong gas fumes all in the car cabin every time I fill up with gas - not topping off, and no fuel leaking. This is so prevalent I have to leave my car parked outside instead of in my garage. This can last for around three days. I have investigated possible causes and none seem to actually correct the issue. This can be quite costly. I also have noticed many many other complaints filed for the same reason.

Compliant Filed 03/19/14

good luck

Good luck to you..
Get ready for the run around by your Local Mercedes Dealer.

Personally we will never buy another Mercedes due to the way we were treated on this by our Dealer " Fletcher Jones Motorcars of Newport beach" .(suks) safety hazard.

Maybe with all the negative press that is happening to GM with the recalls.
Mercedes may pull our their heads and finally resolve this safety Hazard with the defective fuel sensors

The clock is ticking for Mercedes..

Are all California purchased 2007 E350's PZEV equipped? Our car is at the dealer right now being checked for the gas smell. We dont smell it in the car but the garage has a very strong odor of gas just after the car is filled up and then subsides over a few days.

Can someone please help check my VIN to see if it has the 917 code (pzev). there was a site I used years ago that had a breakdown of options but I cant find it anymore.

Thanks, Chris

Could also be a fuel-saturated charcoal canister. People who overfill (past the nozzle "click") will often end up contaminating the charcoal canister with gas. It leads to a bad fuel smell also, but is pretty easily remedied by replacing the canister.....

Good luck! Hope yours is code 917 too. Be prepared for the runaround. Took me 21 days to get my car repaired for free.

Is there a sticker on the door or something that has the code? Could the dealer find out?

^^The dealer can view/print your car’s data card. That will tell them if your car is a code 917.

Update! So forum member RavenMDX was kind enough to run the card and I do have PZEV 917! Hopefully this will give me some leverage.

Ok so no word yet from the dealer. Just wondering how much is covered under the pzev warranty? Is it the tank the hoses, fuel pump, basically everything attached to the fuel tank? I can see the conversation with the service writer going "well this is covered but that is not etc.etc".

The dealer called and said its leaking at the top. $3540 to fix but he is going to make some calls to see if he can get it covered.
