They're NOT 2 totally separate companies as far as upper management goes. Why would one be better than the other? (except for transmission/satellite differences)

While we are still having the locked up satellite radio problem... My radio takes a long while before it will begin to play the last station listened to. I found that adjusting the volume level up for a second hastens the radio playing after (re)starting the car... as if removing it from mute. Not logical but it gives me music much sooner than if I do nothing but wait.

Saturday, April 21, Sirius started working again in my car. All presets are gone but seems like all channels are operating. Of course, I never got the promised phone call to tell me it was working again. Or an e-mail. Or anything else that resembled an admission that there was ever a problem. I am still considering cancelling but will wait a while and see if I am still as mad later.

I think they are two different operating systems. My experience with XM was absolutely trouble free. BTW my Sirius was fine today.
Fingers crossed.

SiriusXM has established a process where they add the ESN of the affected vehicle to a "protected tier" they have established for these MB vehicles in their system. It prevents the radio from seeing the additional channels and thus solves the problem. Regional Manager names for direct customer interaction (they can fill you in on more detail should you need it).

This "protected tier" is exactly the sort of exclusion group I was trying to explain to their techs, but no one could understand the means to the end.. Working in the IT world made it clear to me that this was probably a simple change.

Have them swap a dummy ESN on to your account while the vehicle is on and you can see the sky. Give it a few minutes and then have them swap your account back to your ESN. It will reset it and you'll be on the preview channel for a few minutes until it pulls down your station list.

My Satellite problem has been fixed by Sirius, probably permanently. They do it by putting your SDARS unit's EIN into a "protected tier" in their computer system so that when they tell their system to send all the channels for free, our radios do not accept more than the total number of channels which our head units were designed to hold which causes them lock up.
If a service department changes out your Satellite radio receiver, you will have to advise Sirius to put the new receivers EIN into that protected tier.

I picked up a new ML last week and have had this issue a few times. The radio is stuck on "updating channels" and I can only listen to the last channel that was on. In searching of this issue, I came across this thread and am wondering if this is my issue as well. Since this thread is 2 years old, I would have hoped they resolved the issue by now.

This shouldn't be an issue in a 2014, only 2008 and earlier. You car is designed to handle the 160+ stations plus a bunch of other sat data (traffic, weather, etc.). There is probably an another issue. How long have you let it update? Is your account current (6 months free from sale date)? Perhaps have sirius send a refresh signal. If all else fails it is a 2014 take it in for service.

Thanks for confirming this, I was about to call Sirius to get my radio added to that protected tier. I did some more forum searching and this issue seems to be wide spread, there is a thread in the GLK forum about this exact issue. According to some folks, MB has acknowledged the issue and is working on a software fix. I am in the first week of my 6 month trial, so I haven't driven the car long enough yet to see if I just have to be patient with the update.

Most days no issue.
Some days, radio comes on to the last channel, gives the "updating channels" with spinning icon, and will continue like this until the car is shut down. Start the car back up and Sirius works fine. It happened to me twice today.
I tried turning off the radio while driving, waiting for a minute or two, turning it back on and the problem continues.
If I shut the car off completely, shut off engine, open door and then restart the problem is immediately resolved.
Since the fix that I have found involves the car and not the radio, I am inclined to think this is a Mercedes problem. I have 3 autos with Sirius, this is the only vehicle that has done this.
A quick Google search indicates this is a known problem with no real fix.

Updating stations
My 2006 ML350 is having the same problem with updating stations at least 4 or 5 times a day. And when it is done it dumps you on sat station 1 hits.
Turning radio power on and off is no help as well as turning car on and off.No help!

- Contact SiriusXM following recommendation in above post 36 odd that this just started happening but they could have changed their update process.
- Receiver may need replacement (common), or antenna may be malfunctioning - definitive answer have someone check with MB DAS.
