headrest rattle

Has anyone else encountered headrests that rattle? The noise goes away if you lean your head on the headrest, but it's especially annoying when the passenger seat is unoccupied.

hmm, i think this is the first time i have seen this. i would just try to fix it by maybe pushing the front headrest in and out, if you look in the manual you'll see that you can adjust it, that might fix it, if not, im sure your dealer can get another one

i had this too. i think it's the plastic ring cover around the bars connected to the seat. i shoved a tiny piece of cloth under the ring and the rattle went away. this was driving me crazy since my wheels will not balance propertly. the cars vibrates at 50 mph. i think i'm going to have to get differents tires to fix this.

If you have Conti Sport Contact 2 (as I had), they become difficult to balance after 25000 km (15 000 miles). I changed it for Michelin Primacy at 30000 km.

wem,

You are not alone - I have the same passenger seat rattle problem as you described. Not to the point of annoying but noticeable. I'll try to live with it since it only appears on certain stretches of pavement and it's not intrusive.

wem,

I had the same issue w/the passenger seat head rest. The dealer replaced the motor and it's never rattled since.

Headrest rattle

I have the same problem - especially at highway speeds when the passenger seat is unoccupied. I reach over and adjust the passenger headrest and it goes away. Until the next time I'm at highway speed... sigh.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. The car is supposed to go back in on the 21st. I'll communicate the suggestions about the head rests.

Well, I've had my car in the shop for this problem 4 times. Started out by applying grease, then placed felt around the rods, then replaced the motor, then took the seat apart and put it back together.... Now they want to replace the structure in the seat. That is, of course, if the service advisor ever returns my call.

I've also got serious vibration in the shoulder belt adjusters on both sides. I was told, "that's the way they are designed. If we fix it they won't work properly".

Where's that MBUSA dealer satisfaction survey again....???

I would try to chase the vibration where it is originated.

I suggest that you check the 4 wheels balance.

If you ned to rebalance shortly after, it means that you have to change tires.

Familiar with that rattle. Almost unnoticeble (not to the point to bring the car to the dealer), but it is there when no passenger at low speeds. So you say a wheel balance problem. But wheels may be balanced, because no rattle in the steering wheel.

My car came whith the Conti SC 2.

I have the passenger seat head rest and plactic seat belt holder (top part next to your head) rattle. I mentioned the seat rattle and the service rep said "don't put it up so high". He was right in that it didn't rattle when the passenger headrest is up two inches or less. The seat belt rattle is pissing me off. I move it and is goes away but keeps coming back.

This noise is driving me crazy!

I understand that its subtle, and that it may not be a big deal to others, but I almost hate driving the car alone anymore!

I drive 2 hrs each way to work. It's torture. I yell at it. I punch it. Soon it will be on the shoulder of the NJ turnpike.

The only good thing about it...its louder than the 'valve tap-like' noise coming from my moter mounts.

yes, i absolutely have that problem. It is worse as the headrest is extended out from the seat. Somewhat annoying.
