After doing some research for black chrome emblems and coming up empty handed, I decided I would take a shot at Plasti-Dip’ing them. I was a bit skeptical of the product and how it would turn out, but I read enough to learn that if I didn’t like it I could simply pull it all off.

I found a great YouTube video that show exactly how to do this without having to remove any of the letters or badges.

I really didn’t believe doing this would be as easy as they show, but I was wrong. This was the easiest little mod I have done to date. I was very pleased with the outcome.

You can see in my pictures that you don’t have to tape off between all the letters or between the star emblem, just around it leaving a quarter to half inch gap. Before I started to spray, I cleaned everything with rubbing alcohol to remove any grease or wax. Your first pass should be very light (see picture). After that I did several (5 to 6) thin coats waiting 5 to 10 min between each coat. After your final coat wait 30 to 45 mins before pulling all of the tape and plasti dip off your paint. At the end of the video above you can see how easy pulling the unwanted plasti-dip is.

Fun little project!

Amazing how easily it comes off the car's paint but not off the chrome letters.

Neat job and a Great tip. Any thoughts on how long it will last? Should not see alot of wear on the rear deck.
THANKS!!

Those are both awesome jobs!

As many youtube videos as there are showing the process, it never gets old when you pull the Plasti Dip from the body and it comes off nice and clean.

A very satisfying feeling.

Love the product, I have seen people do rims, roofs and everything in between. The best I have seen so far was all the wood trim in the cabin done in the gun metal grey on a E350.

What?!

Maybe you applied it too heavily on the first coat?

Here's my own car. I think it looks totally BA:

Looks great! I plasti-dipped the chrome fog-light surrounds on mine and I love the final result. This stuff works on really anything aesthetic without adverse effects or high cost.

I did this for the first time yesterday. I've been reading up in it for years and decided to go for it. Incredibly easy, just takes patience!
