Strange noise from engine
Hello everybody,
I am satisfied owner of w211 E200 after face life (build year 2006) with mileage of 110k km. However recently I have noticed a strange rattle noise comming from the engine (1.8 Kompressor with 184 HP). The noise is noticeable for a short period of time while starting the engine. It lasts longer while driving uphill with a low RPM (I have manual transmission). I hope the recorded video will give you a better idea what I mean. It is during 0:03 and 0:11 in this video.
Does anybody experienced such a noise? Is it normal by this engine or something is wrong? Thank you guys for any suggestions.

Are you referring to the rattle/knocking noise as the engine starts?
Now I'm a Master Toyota Tech so this is a guess, but it sounds like something coming in contact with something else as the engine torques over as it fires. An exhaust manifold contacting the frame member or something similar due to a worn or broken engine mount. Having the car on a lift and seeing it from underneath as it starts could show if an engine mount has failed and you are getting too much movement. A failed mount would also cause the noise to occur when the engine is loaded, such as climbing a hill.
It's just a guess on my part, but not unusual for a car with 100K + miles.

Hi Guys,
thanks for your feedback. The problem has been solved. I am not a mechanic so I don't know if I explain it right but the culprit was one of the wheels propelled by the alternator belt. One of them used to get stuck from time to time. Since it was replaced the strange noise is gone.
