Hoping to start a thread on gas mileage, and hoping there isn't one already ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Post average mpg you guys are getting and maybe tips on improving gas mileage
I'm averaging about 19mpg in my E320
Thinking about get some K&N filters I hear that they help, as well as doing a fuel injection cleaning... Thoughts if that will help any?

Whoa! you read my mind. I have an E550 and i'm getting around 17-18 mpg. I don't have K&N filters yet so I'm hoping that could get me around 2 more mpg's. I read on another thread that someone was getting around 24 mpg...how in the hell is that possible in an E-class?

diesel mileage
My mileage is fantastic. Bought MY06 320cdi in Sept. 2011 and have a running tank average of 34.1 mpg over the 10 month period. Best tank was just over 38mpg driving to Boston. Worst tank was barely 30 mpg in the deep cold (10-15 F).
With the k&n filter, how much is it and how long will it take to recover the cost?
Cheers

K&N filters are one of the cheapest mods you can do for your car. For our cars about $50 bucks or less. You'll gain a few ponies while increasing your gas mileage.

I'm averaging 17.5 with mixed driving. sometimes as high as 22 or 23 on freeway, if its long freeway like los angeles to vegas, I can get it up to 28.x
Pro Tips: The rate of initial acceleration from a stop is what kills your mpg, so instead of launching from a start, try to accelerate up to speed slowly. This is why the Comfort mode starts you off in 2nd gear, however I always keep mine in sport mode since I start out slow on most stops.
Pro Tips: Move the bottom of your chair back a good 1/2 to 1 inch. This will make your foot a little further from the gas pedal.
Pro Tips: Feather the gas pedal. You only have to press it down a good 1cm or so to get going or to maintain speed - if you're pressing an inch or 2, you could be wasting gas.
Pro Tips: If you have a smart phone, I recommend Gas Bag app, and Gas Buddy app. One is a map of all gas stations and their current prices, so you can shop around. Here in LA, premium ranges from $4.69 to $3.89 so it makes a difference. The Gas Bag app allows you to enter your info at fuel up: gals, price, and odometer reading, which will then display your average mpg. From this, the next time you fill up, hopefully you did better then last time and your MPG continues to clime up.
Pro Tip: Sweet spot on freeway cruising appears to be between 65-70 mph in our cars.

Hi group;
So thanks to you and some more research on internet last week Thursday I got my oil change for the first time to “ Fuchs Fully Synthetic 0w40” also got my oil and air filter replaced by my friend Nelson from www.mercedesnomad.com in my driveway.
Last Sunday we took a nice ride to visit my buddy in Sweet Valley PA, around 130 miles each way on the way back just out of curiosity I checked my mileage and MPG and I was pleasantly surprised it was 30MPG, on the way my windows ware open, few traffic lights, few stops in the traffic and this Mpg’s!
In the pass I was getting around 26MPG on open highway.
Maybe this car was made to run on this oil.
Thanks

I think every post should have the
1)Model (E320, E350, E500, E55, CDI)
2)Mixed/Highway or mainly City:
3)Maybe driving style? Heavy foot/Light foot?
In any case, here's mine
E350 Mixed and regular driving style, no mashing 21 mpg

I always post this link in any thread I find where K&N filters are being discussed.
http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html
I have used K&N's and I am a professional technician. Let's just say that the scientifically backed information in this study has changed a long held belief of mine.

Doing city driving I have a light foot and barely rech 35 mph, but the meter shows only 11 MPG or so
Going to work down I-95 for 25 miles I usually go 80 to 90 and get 18 to 19 MPG average (for the trip)
Total average MPG over the last 3000 miles is right around 15 or a tad less.
Not good, but sometimes I tap into the power on the freeway and pay the price..

Same as a pick up truck and same as an SUV I owned in the past.
Been thinking about the Diesel GLK coming next year, should be priced around $35K and get 30 MPG +

W211 220cdi
6.3l/100km average (that's 37mpg)
5.7l/100km doing 120km/h (that's 41mpg)
7l/100km doing 160km/h (that's 33mpg)
I normally get 950km (590miles) per 61l to 63l tank(~16gallons)
EGR always shut modded.

2003 E320 - 293,000 miles
Mixed Driving 25+
Highway Driving 30+
About 10% less using winter gas (October through April)
I very rarely do city-only driving so most of my driving is mixed. On long highway stretches, I can get over 30 and have seen as high as 33.
All mileage numbers are from the car's computer although when I check during fill-up, they seem to be fairly accurate.

03 E500 and Corvette
122,000 miles (all fun driving of course no feather foot the the grandmother driving this E500, otherwise she would have the 320)
Highway 24 with Ethanol gas. 26 with no ethanol (aint' ethanol grand)
Combined city / hwy 20 w/ Ethanol gas 21.5 w/o ethanol
Fuel Chevorn prem when using ethanol
No name fuel for more $$ for non ethanol and I actually do test for ethanol in the fuel. This fuel is also suitable for my airplane.
Note it is worth the risk for me to continue non-ethanol fuel to avoid the fuel tank leak hassle.
