Need panorama roof comits

the wife has decided on a new E500 instead of a used S500..

Anyway long story short..

she wants the roof, I think it would be hot as hell in the day time.

What do you all think.

we dont have it, but it looks cool. you can also close the rollers, so no sun comes thru, there is an option i believe with the solar cells which will cool the car in the interior, its only available by getting the pano

I have the Pano and solar cells on my E55. Works great. very beautiful from the inside. You can close the roof blinds and the fan runs while you are gone. I also have the rear window shade. A few 100 deg days here, it's a pretty good setup. I'd recommend it.

Where we live, the not so sunny state of Washington it's a great feature. We drive with with the roof shade open almost all the time and only close it when it gets over 80... rare here. It makes the car feel roomier and brighter, we love it.

Thumbs up

Even though in retrospect we should have ordered the Pano roof and solar panels on our re-do NAV E500 I have clients that like it in Atlanta. Get it with the solar cells and get the rear and side curtains as well.

We have the rear/side curtains and they help more than can be imagined even while driving............

Might as well get as much as you can get if you are ordering it.

I live in No VA and it gets hot here in the summer. I have the pano roof without the solar cells and I almost never close the cover and it is fine inside. It is hot when I first get in the car but I open all four windows and the roof and have air on high and it colls off fast. I highly recommend the pano roof. It's a great option IMHO.

Let me duplicate rayscar's comments, except that I do not have the solar panel option, and even without that I find that the car cools off pretty quickly and that the pano roof is a great option.

Not sure what i just did,

THanks for the info that sounds good. I dont know that there was a shade for the roof. I thought it was all just glass. I guess with the shade it makes it like a big sun roof, where you can pull the shade over the glass.

About the key go. we have a kid on the way and i think that is why she is wanting the key go, If i read the information correctley she can have a flat "key" sorta like a credit car which can stay in her wallet. If im correct on this she will never have to dig for the keys to unlock or start the car. Is that correct?

The options we where thinking about are

Jet Black on Black
Factory installed cd changer
Harman Kardon stereo
Keyless go
Panorama Sunroof
Solar panel
E-3 Sport Package
E-5 Heated seats

Also this is a little off topic, but she is running a set of 19" AMG wheels of a CL on her CLK... Im about 100% sure but just want to bouble check... Will those work on the E500.

Keyless Go on the E uses the key, no longer the frail credit card device once employed. But it works in the same fashion. Just keep the key in your pocket/purse, go to the car, hop in and press start. You will still find that you have an ignition key slot, but you will NOT have to use that.

In terms of your options, I would say it is a go on all of them if you want to spend the money. If you do decide on the pano roof, get the solar panels, as it makes it a much more worthwhile option at that point.

Also, note that for 2004 the options change, so if you are going to be ordering it, you will be getting a 2004 at this point in time. This has been discussed a few times on this board so far, and it won't make much of a difference with the options that you have ordered, they will just be called different names or grouped a little differently.

if you are looking at heated seats, look at the active ventilated seats. they have a cooling and heating feature. especially if you're getting the charcoal interior.

Don't you know!! If your wife is a vegeterian, that pretty much makes you a vegeterian.. lol..

Honestly, if the AC is running and you have the roof open, it would not be hot as hell..

AGree with above regarding the Pano roof, but if heat is your concern you might want to rethink the black on black, especially the black interior.

Yea i know that will be hot, but i love black. I was just worried that there was not a cover / shade for the roof. Be like driving a convertiable with the top down ever day.

Definitely get the pano!!! It's one of my favorite features. If you're in a hot climate, you should probably get the solar panels. I live at the beach in L. A. where it's cool, and I only close the shades on the pano if I go out to the Valley where it's hot or if I'm going to be parking in the sun on a hot day. But don't miss out. The pano is totally cool!!!

And, Mr. Xristo, you're a very WISE man!!!

The pano roof has a coating that looks black from an angle, but is more silver and reflective from straight on. If anything it should be cooler than the standard roof as long as the cover is closed. I have black/charcoal. It's an E55, but I think the AMG charcoal is the same as the other cars. I have the solar panel as well. It is the coolest black car I have owned. In fact, it's as cool as a normal light colored car. It is in the high 90's here every day.

May not be a W211 but our R230 has the pano-roof and I can't say what life would be like without it. It's perfect for the day's when it's too hot or too cold to drop the top! I'd soo reccomend it to anyone.

Pano roof is great-- ups the "coolness" factor lol The only drawback I can see is that it may not match well with certain colors. As others have said, heat is a non issue with the sunshades.

Kerr,

your wife is right. a pano roof makes your car differently.

it is one of the best option in w211.

Hmm, they are tricky at first if you are not used to opening them. They have latches by the rear seat handles. They are hidden well though.

You might want to check the manual for the release button. There is a pretty good blow up of it in there.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

I too have the pano and solar panels, what I dont understand is would the ventilation turn on automatically ? Can you do it manually if needed ?

I know about the REST button that will activate it before leaving the car.

Cheers,

PN
