I'm just going to make this short and sweet.

I need rear tires for my 08 E350 Sport Sedan.

My #1 priority is comfort and quietness.

I was considering the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I currently have the Continental ContiproContact tire on the car.

Suggestions?

Me too, and I'm happy. But I'm in PA, you're in NJ and the person asking is in Georgia. I doubt DWS are what he needs, but they would not be bad either.

 

Yes, I am in Georgia....sorry I forgot to mention that. So we dont get alot of snow obviously. And if we do, I dont drive on it

How does the DWS compare to the regular Contipro Contact that I have? Firmer ride? Softer ride?

 

Check out what motortrend says about the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus. 50k warranty. I have had a set for a month now and its the best tire I have had as far as wet grip and ride. I also live in Georgia.

 

Hmmmm.......ok. Thanks I'll check the reviews on that tire. I had not even considered Bridgestone. So they have a nice comfortable quiet ride, but are still good on handling?

 

Can't beat the (OE) Michelin MXM4s for longevity!

 

Very good ride, very quiet, and in the rain they are outstanding. I use the W rated which gives lateral g's of around .93 in dry. It is an expensive tire. Total cost will be 1000.00 to 1200.00. Including alignment and taxes and epa fees I paid just over 1300.00.

 

I haven't had contpro contacts, so I don't know how they compare to the DWS. I find the DWS to be a comfortable ride. They handle well in rain and snow and are quite acceptable to me in cornering in dry conditions. I am not a racing driver, but I do like to corner with the 4matic. The compound of the DWS is a little more pliant or sticky in cold weather. I neither recommend for or against it in a non-4matic car in the south. Economy-wise, they are probably the cheapest all-season performance tire around. You will certainly find more expensive performance tires with better absolute summer grip.

I run Michelin PSS 19s on my E55 AMG with
LOTZ of MODZ. So far Great tires for the
Traction & aggressive spirited drives.

I have a set of the H Rated Bridgestone Turanza Serenity on my 06 E320 CDI and they are great. Quiet, smooth and handle as well as the Michelins they replaced. They are great on wet surfaces but have not tried them in the snow. The H rated tire has a 70K treadwear warranty. Mine have been on for 15,000 miles and less than 2/32s wear.

 

Michelins. I ran BS's and they cupped out made noise harsh ride pulled them at 12,000. Ran Master Craft same issues. Tire dealers blamed car, car dealer blamed tires. I went to show room looked at new MB and bought those, Michelin's and it cured all the issues. Last 60,000 have been on Michelin's. When they say as good As Michelin, I have learned they are way more expensive when you pay for the alignments to solve the car issue that isn't there, and make numerous trips to the dealer and tire company trying to solve the issues. Now I run Michelin on all 3 of my cars with no problems. After all "They Are as Good as Michelin because they are!"

Just one man's experience, opinion, and suggestion: go with Michelin Pilot AS Plus. There are beaucoup tires available, at a wide range of prices. None of them are as good as the Michelin Pilot AS Plus. I've tried Pirellis (noisiest tire I've ever owned), Bridgestone (second-best to the Michelins ... narrow difference ... if I couldn't have the Michelins, I'd buy another set of Bridgestones), Continental (almost ties Pirellis for noise ... wore unevenly ... was never happier to see a set of tires wear out). But know this about the Michelins: when the tires start getting to their last 5,000 miles or so of remaining wear, they too start getting noisy. If you're getting new tires, I suggest you get a 4-wheel alignment done on your car ... unless you've had an alignment within the past 10,000 miles or so. I don't know what it is about Mercedes Benz and wheel alignment: it's either exactly spot on, or it's terrible. Good luck, Mate.

Replaced my Contitouringcontact with Michelin Primacy MXM4 all around yesterday. Huge difference. Merc ride is back.

 

John - I run the DWS on one of my personal cars and love them AND I live in Atlanta. Don't let the tread design fool you, they are quiet and comfortable. I have also have had great expereience with the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus on Benzes (so far great feedback). Thanks

Thanks for the info. I think I am leaning towards the DWS.

 

I don't have the Sport A/S with the V tread design. My tire was discontinued and has the conventional tread design for the PS II series if I remember correctly. I still will run Michelins but won't use the agressive design. However it is good to know this issue exist because I am due tires on my Vet and will be using Michelin's on it also.

 

Michelin and Continental is definitely the best tires, but unfortunatley expensive too..
The last time I bought new tires ( this spring) I tried something cheaper... I bought four new Summertires 225/55-16 for half of the cost compared to Michelin!!
I must say I'm very satisfied with these tires, "Milestone Green Sport" manufactured in China!

 

Best tire I ever bought for my 2004 E320 are General Altimax HP..very comfortable, great wear and best ride ever!!!

 

Well, since I started this thread, I've driven a friend of mine's 2009 E350 Sport Sedan with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Even though I'm sure that it is a fine tire (according to the reviews anyway) the ride is too rough for me. I could definitely tell the difference between what I have (Contipro Contact) and the Michelins.

I think the Michelin would be great if you were an aggressive driver and great for cornering at high speed, etc.... but thats just not me.

So, I still have not got my new tires yet, but I am still leaning towards the DWS.

 

I am going between the Conti EC DWS and the Proxes 4 Plus... this study on toyo did it for me... After only getting 10k out my last General Exclaim UHPs on the rear, I'm sticking with Porxes 4 Plus - http://toyotraining.com/proxes_4_plus_prfm.php

I have Michelin Pilot Sport II on both my cars. I like them way better than the factory OEM Continentals.
