ECU software - files and equipment

Hello there,

I drive a e270 cdi

I am basically looking for software names that is used for ecu tuning. Where one can get files for the tuning.
And what kind of OBD cable is used for a mercedes.

I am not looking for answer like "leave it to the professionals etc etc"

everyone started somewhere, and I am very well versed with electronics and computers, but I just recently got into cars.

Thanks

You need to speak with Bosch or Siemens. They make the actual controllers. Mercedes just builds cars.

If you want to build your profiles speak with Vector in Stuttgart.

Search what is that? I have never even heard of google nor of the advanced search features?!?

Haven't even thought of the following algorithms here and on google:
Best ECU tuning software mercedes
w211 ECU tuning
hardware for ECU tuning.
ecu w211

Although not knowing how to use the search button, I found that most links were for tuning companies that would do it for me. No thanks I want to do it myself even if I wreck my car. Secondly search on here showed me 0 results, even just with ecu w211 search.

I have a simple question and just want a simple answer: I am not asking if/how to learn search I did, I joined MBworld, benzworld and few others.

What I am looking for:

Best software for ECU tuning: (especially mercedes) to download my ECU files, MOD and reupload it into the ROM

Hardware required for tuning: Laptop??? OBD to USB cable?? anything else? a nagging wife?
files for ECU modding/tuning: wich website or what program has the best or a few collections of ECU modified files.

Thanks

Z

Ps. not really in the mood for bs answers...

Get a job at a tuning shop and steal all the information.

simplify your search on Google to: ECU Tuning Software and weed through that to figure out what software you should consider. The software is useless however, if you have no idea or experience in actual car tuning. Your best bet is to talk to actual tuners and pick their brains for info.

I think I can speak for most of the people on this forum...we leave the tuning to professionals, so you probably won't find any topics here that will help your search.

Tuning- ECU Software ETC.

First off I'd like to say that "tuning" a cdi is tricky at best.

What are your goals? Are you trying to gain HP and TQ? That involves more than the star diag machine and software.

I've had several ECU tunes on vehicles (acura, porsche, audi ) and although I own a Data Company and have 20+ years experience with computers and 30+ in electronics to include the Air Force, I would not tune an ecu myself. Not that I'm a ***** and couldn't do it, I don't have the time to find the equipment and tune ONE ECU. Do yourself a favor and buy an identical ECU (used)..send it to the Benz Tuner you choose, theyll wipe it and tune it to the max specs and send it back to you. That's it. Trust me on this you mess up ONE parameter on the ECU and you're out of business. Find your mods like injectors, turbo timers, headers etc and tell the shop what you want. Better yet find a local shop that does a Eurotune and watch them do it.
My Kleemann E500 (E50K) has over 25K in mods and the ECU TUNE was the scariest for me. I have to admit that the end result is amazing from 306HP to over 450 and 500TQ. The two things that NEED to be done by a professional are the Wire Harness and the ECU. Period.

Star Diagnostics / SDS / Star / MB Star / Star C3 / Star C4 are the answers you are looking for. This is what the MB dealer uses. It costs $22,000 / month last time I checked. Or maybe it was per quarter. Or maybe you can buy some cheap Chinese knockoff. In any case, the answers here are correct. You can update the software with such a tool, but you don't know WHAT you are updating. See, this tool allows you to update the computers with new programming. However, the programming is for chips you do not understand in an assembly language for an architecture you do not understand that controls hardware systems you do not understand. The companies that tune these systems work with the manufacturers of these systems to get specifications and diligently study these systems in teams and sometimes perform trial-and-error on many parts to come up with tuning parameters. Sometimes the manufacturers give incomplete specs, and sometimes these guys blow up an engine or two while doing it and then rebuild the engines. That's why they are tuner shops and charge so much money for a quick software flash. It costs them literally NOTHING to flash your ECU. They hook it up to a computer and write some bits to an interface that modifies the PROM on the device with new fuel maps and what have you. What cost the money was how many engines they blew up and how many ECUs they fried and how many hours they spent studying and understanding these things. Since you are unwilling to do a couple of quick searches to find even the software that facilitates these software updates, I'm inclined to believe that you lack the diligence and general wherewithal to accomplish the tasks these tuner shops pull off. Do yourself a favor and buy the software from the pros. Or go to school for several years of electrical and computer engineering and learn the discipline required to work for these tuner shops. If you REALLY want to work on your own you may be able to contact the tuner shops and see if their R&D guys would be bothered to talk to someone with skills like yours. Whatever that may mean.

The firmware can be purchased and modified in an editor. I don't know who sells it but google should be helpful. If I know who does I'll let you know.

I downloaded firmware with eBay less clone,(hw+sw). Not sure what app allowing you to modify/decode the values. It's not expensive, also to use Xentry you don't need to waste 2000 as other guy's suggested... If interested, I'll guide you... Mb dealer software won't work for tuning maps.

Contact VladimirCDI in Russia. He is an expert for MB maps. He vil send you the files you ask for, and you kan do the tune yourself with his obd2tune plug. He send you the connector, and inside this its a SD card, with the files you asked for.. ex ADblue off. He also adds the factory firmware. So you can easily revert the car to orginal ecu firmware in 3 mins. The tuning process, and the options factory or tune is shown in the command screen during the process is running., He is very helpfull. If you need more, he uploads files at his serves, so you can download and put the files at the SD card.
