COMAND UPDATE? I am new.

COMAND UPDATE? I am new.
Hey Guys,

I just bought a 2004 E320 recently. I saw a thread on the forums here about a COMAND update:

So I was like Hey I want to update mine also. I burned the CD put it in and it said WRONG VARIANT.

I guess I can't update mine or? Do i have to choose a different software? As far as I know it's a W211.

It is difficult to say if you need different software when you don't say which one you tried and if your car is a European market model or something else. The error message sounds like you were trying to update the Euro SW on a US Comand, or vice versa.

Are you sure you need this? Your head unit might already be up-to-date.

Hi,

I have not tried anything. I asked the previous owner and he did not do any updates or anything. The car is just like how he bought it in 2004.

How can i be sure if i need this or not?

Your description is confusing to me. First you say you had the service CD and put it in and you got this wrong variant response but then you say you did not try anything. Where did this wrong variant message come from?

Do you have the menu option to set ETA permanently visible during navigation? If you have that, then you should have the latest COMAND SW and don't need any update.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply here.

1. I asked the original mercedes owner, he said he has not done any updates to software or anything. The MB is in the way he bought it, no changes to it.

2. I went here:

I downloaded that, i followed the instructions and inserted it and got the wrong VARIANT.

I do not have the ETA you are saying.

As I said the software on this MB has not been updated since it was bought in 2004. I am sure there are updates that need to be done.

No it's not Euro version. This car is in the United States

I guess I am not understanding something here lol. Is this only for euro versions?

There are many Euro Comand units in use at that side of the pond. Sometimes the whole car is imported from Europe, I heard someone from the forum was driving a C240 imported from Germany.

The head unit update from the European site is for the European head units. You would need another one with a different part number.

Does anyone know where to download the US variant of the update?

Better yet, are there any W211 owners that have updated their COMMAND? If so, how did you do it? Where did you download the software from?

I was under the impression that updates to the navi were DVD based, maybe that is the problem?

This is not a Navi Maps database update. These are service CDs and there is even one for the navi processor (but it is not needed any more).

This is about the Comand head unit update!

If I remember right, konigstiger referred to one from a US on-line shop, the original service CD is not expensive at all.
