MB *now* wants $249 for Navigation Update Disk
Just got an e-mail from MB USA today to sell me the latest navigation update.
If I remember correctly, prior updates were expensive costing around $149.
The e-mail today priced the disc at $249 - what a rip off!

Ive been at a dealer for over 3 years and its pretty much always been around $250 list so this isnt anything new. Its mostly new streets and stuff however im not 100% sure if theres extra stuff on there since they dont actually tell us whats been updated or not.

How does the update process work?
1. Do we simply stick the DVD in and let COMAND copy the data to a local harddrive?
OR
2. Do we need to replace an existing DVD with this DVD?
Thanks

Take dvd out of the trunk unit and place new dvd in it. If you have not previously updated then you may need to get previous updates also.

I had to do a 2007 update before I could do a 2010 update. I have just recently installed the 2012 update. It depends on how old your dvd is that you now have. I think the 2007 also updated some of the software in addtion to roads and POI.

If anyone has the older discs available, I'd like to borrow/buy the 2007 and 2010 discs so I can do a similar update from my 2005 to the 2012. (Thanks to 'homeofstone' for the updating information!)

My navigation is not working. No Signal from the sats, took it to the dealer who wanted 250 to diagnose the problem and said it could be a thousand more to fix it...I went to Best Buy and bought a garmin for 150...works better than any MB navigation of our age...for instance it talks to me and I can put in street addresses...

Edit: From a post by konigstiger (MB World guru) :
COMAND head unit service DVD special tool W211 589 14 22 00 – dealer net $12 allows ETA, etc.
“DVD not recognized” – Navigation module/processor service DVD special tool (as per P-B-82.85/524a) W211 589 15 22 00 – dealer net $12.
Eject existing navigation DVD, insert service DVD wait about 20 seconds the update process starts automatically and take about four minutes. Eject the service DVD, insert your latest navigation DVD you will notice the progress bars on the head unit this indicates the new navigation DVD is loading successfully. When completed turn ignition off and wait about three minutes to allow MOST and CAN to sleep. Turn ignition on, allow the navigation to warm start and acquire the satellites. Check navigation for correct operation by entering a destination.

NEW NAV DISC
The previous NAV Disc added the locations of Post Offices. I have found that the Starbucks have move or closed since the release. When travelling call ahead to make sure the business is at the same location.

NEW NAV DISC
The last time I replaced the NAV Disc from the dashboard. I had to take all the disc out. Insert the disc in to slot one. It took a couple of minutes to start working. Once the Nav was updated I removed the disc.

Hi Barry, I just installed the latest 2012 disc and NO post offices. In fact, I remembered your post as I was driving right by one...even stopped just to make sure. (I'm assuming no button pressing required)
I didn't see any other added functionality either, just some new streets (mine).
