I'd bet that's it. The Granite color is available, or soon to be available, on the Estate in Europe this fall. The badge says "avant garde", that's the name for the current Sport Package in Europe and it will be called the Appearance Package for 2004.

I am not sure, it could be Pewter also. On the Granite Grey note, it will not be available until the middle of October production MY04 E-class. I tried to modify a car today that has a September production, but Netstar would not accept the update. It gave an error message that said color is not available until 2 decade of October.

MarcusBenz,
My car is scheduled for production in decade 2 of September. I watched as my dealer input the order on NetStar and it was accepted, including the Granite Gray color. Now I'm going to double-check to be sure since you had trouble. I'll keep you posted.

mallard,
I just tried again to select Granite on an E500 that has a 2nd Decade of September production and got the same error message. It says, "Code 747 not available until 2003-10-2 Cycle" which means the 2nd Decade of October. If you saw your dealer change the color and it was accepted, then consider yourself lucky, that is all I can say. Also, maybe it is different on Euro. Delivery cars.

MarcusBenz,
I asked my dealer to verify the availability of the Granite Gray color based on your experience. He had someone contact a representative in Germany to be sure it was available for my car which will be produced in decade 2 of September. It IS available and my order has been accepted by NetStar. But, like you said, this may be different for Euro Delivery vehicles only and I do know that he communicates with a special department within MB for Euro Delivery. Maybe that's the difference? Either way, if you really want that color, go back to your dealer and press them on the issue. Throughout this process I have learned more information from this forum than I have from the dealer. It seems as though they get very little information from MB, or not much training on the new model year. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Anyone who has seen the large color sample of granite that was referred to as being available to dealers, can you take a photo of same and post it? Thanks.
Also, since the 2004 E Class brochures are not out yet, can somone confirm what interior colors are allowed with the new Granite without incurring an extra charge for special order?
Another favor, does ordering the pacific blue interior with the Brilliant Silver still incurr an extra charge as a special order as it did for the 2003 model and likewise is charcoal interior with the Platinum Blue still an extra charge special order as well for 2004?

I saw the color swatch when I visited the dealership in Houston a few weeks ago, and did not take a pic (sorry... ). But we put this swatch on a Pewter car to see the difference between the 2 colors (in broad sunlight outside). We liked the Pewter better because we like the brown tones, the Granite Grey is very gray (with a small twinge of another color, like a slight greenish tint). It was hard to tell because it was only a 12" square, but both my wife and I felt it had a slight green to it (maybe it was just the sun, but these metallic colors do have a way of changing they way the look in sunlight).
The color that seems to most resemble the color is a gray that I have seen on a bunch of VW Passats, but on the VW you don't see that twinge of the green, so I really am not sure the color will be exactly the same.
