i think since your on a MB forum, most people would say they like the performance of the E. if you want straight up performance, and not the best ride, or a quiet ride, go with a BMW. but for a nice, smooth, quiet ride, the E cant be beat. i think it would be better if you expanded your question into more detail

i see, well, since the 545i isnt out yet, im sure no one has driven it. i havent driven a 540i either, but im sure that comparing the 540i 5 spd vs. the E500 the transmission in the 540i would be a little more aggressive, and downshift a lot..handling im sure also is better for the 540i. the E500 has many more featues that the 54i doesnt have, like a Air-Suspension, its quieter, and the ride would be better, so if you want speed, and a car for your family, i would think the E500 would suit you better.

The 545i's steering is much better than the E500's.

It's funny how you said that the 545i isn't out yet, but you said that the E500's ride is better and quieter.

I have seen the 530i in person at the local BMW showroom. It looks great. I played around with the iDrive. I like it.

well, what im trying to say is that, the MB will be quieter...everyone knows that. the ride will also be better. its all about characteristics of the car.

OK, so please get the 530i right now, and leave us alone, and stop wasting my time.

i kind of agree, kain, you ask questions that we cannot answer, then you tell us your answer, and basically, there is no need to ask the question you already know. i am not trying to be rude at all, but im just saying if you like the BMW, go for it, its a great car, and it might suit you a lot better than the E.

Since the 4.4 engine is already out in the 745i, E500's engine is bigger but not better :p I'd say they are the same from the spec's, I've never driven E500 so I don't know which one is more responsive, etc.

Performance wise, BMW has traditionally holds the edge. Even the "old" 540i is still a better driver's car (so say car mags).
And with the new 545i bringing in iDrive, heads-up display, Active steering, etc, 5 series is catching up in the gizmos

One thing I WISH 5er's had is that cool glass roof that E-class has! It's beautiful :p

How is the throttle response in the E500? Is it that slow *** tip-in type or is it more immediate and "right now" type?

it depends how you drive it. if you want to make it more agressive, push it more, and it will learn, and give you more power, also by putting the car intoSport II mode. Kain, the best thing to do is test drive a E500, for your own personal first hand experience.

Considering the 545i isn't out yet and it's almost certain that no one here has driven one it's kinda impossible to make that comparsion. A question for you... if you don't like MB why do you spend so much time on a Benz board??? Seems that in almost every forum you post endless threads about Audi, BMW, etc and how they're all superior cars. Is it that you have nothing better to do? Don't you have studying to do??? If not, Dubai is a lovely place, get outside, meet a girl, go do something besides arguing against cars you don't and (for the forseeable future) won't own.

yea its about 5.7. but that all depends on where you live, and all of the other conditions, some mags have said 5.7, some have said around 6.0 i once got around 5.7....my own timing and once i got 6.5. i thought the 545i would be faster than that though, 325 hp..

www.bmw.com claims the 545i goes from 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds. That means, it probably goes from 0-60 mph in 5.6-5.7 seconds.

Hey Kain,

Why would any 18 year old have so much interest in a family car. You should hang out on the W230 forum. If you've never had any exposure to Corvettes, the Z06 Vette is quite the killer ride. How about a supercharged Mustang Cobra convertible or Viper? Those would be killer rides for a teenager.

Thanks kaneman

A rather gentle way to flame a troll. There are several trolls from the Lexus board that perform the same tricks as this guy. Why they hang out on the MB forums is the question. I suppose they get enjoyment getting people to respond

This is strange. Even on a Mercedes-Benz forum, the poll results are almost even.

why did you say that if bmw says the 545 will do 0-60 in 5.8 then it will do it in 5.7, 5.6??? its MB that gives the 0-60 figures higher not bmw! BMW said its 530d does 0-60 in 7.2 seconds.....in almost every test review of the 530d, the 530d has never come close to the 7.2 claimed! the last review i read (cant remember whihc mag/website) said 0-60 was 7.7.....which is same as mercs E320 CDI! so i wont be sure if the bmw would do less than 5.8...maybe higher :P
