Misc Service Issues and Fixes
I finally took the car in to get the following fixed:
Fan Noise:
Wiper Noise:
Instrument Display for Airmatic
Dieseling Noise / Engine ticking:
Xenon Light Pattern:
Fixes and Comments:
Fan Noise: Normal. When its hot enough for Auto climate control to start on Max Cool, the fan goes on full speed until max cool goes off. They offered no reprogramming of the computer. No Fix, Still Annoying.
Wiper Noise: Replaced blades at no charge... Now Perfect.
Instrument Display for Airmatic: The said there is no instrument cluster display for switching from Sport I to Sport II, etc. I indicated that I had seen a picture of one and they said they had never seen one. No Fix.
Dieseling Noise / Engine ticking: I though for sure it was a valve issue. As mind boggling as it seems, the motor mounts did the trick. Perfect
Xenon Light Pattern: Checked and rechecked. The shorter distance on the drivers side is normal. No Fix, Still Annoying.
Alignment / Pulling to the right. I actually had this fixed before but went for a warranty alignment while I was there. Still Perfect!
Also, in the Chicago rush hour traffic, I notice sort of a groaning vibration from about 0 - 10 mph when easing on the accelerator and then again coasting downward at about 20 - 15 mph. I have the Conti's but I don't think tires are the cause. Don't hear much of anything from them even at 75 mph.
Finally, got some "frosty" spots on the passenger side windshield this morning. I did wash the car yesterday and am hoping that this phenomenon is related.
PS - I don't really know to expect in a luxury vehicle such as this. My wife finally pried my fingers from the wheel of my beloved '93 Chevy pickup with 195k on the odometer. I miss my truck but the E500 puts a smile on my face!
Have about 200 miles on my E500. Is the engine supposed to be completely quiet at idle? I have read about the engine mount problem here before. I do notice a faint "bup-bup-bup-bup" sound when at idle.

Thanks for the input.
Not the engine. Can feel a bit of vibration through the steering wheel as well. Almost like slightly grooved pavement might feel. If I had to guess, I would say seems more tire or brake origin. Wondering if it is possible that the brakes might not be engaging or disengaging properly, especially when coming off a complete stop? Didn't think it was the tires because I have noticed it on expressways, local streets, etc. but only at a restricted range of low speeds.
Sorry, not much of a mechanical guy. If no one has ideas, I will get some more data points before reposting or take it to the dealer in a couple weeks. Wanted to get a pretty complete shakedown before that. Not one to run in for everything I notice.

Mine is a May 03 build, and I have the display. If you are close to the dealership, have their mechanics go out and look at an E with Airmatic suspension and press the button behind the gearshift (even with the car off, but with the key in the ignition) the center display in the instrument cluster will show "Sports I" and then "Sports II" and then, finally "Comfort" if you cycle through all of them.
My wipers make that annoyingly loud sound against the window..is that what yours did?
Skymast..I found out that the Xenon lights are supposed to be "uneven"..The right light is higher so you can see stop signs and other postings while not blinding the oncoming drivers.

Also, has anyone (without the Airmatic display) had it fixed??
I hear the same "groan," but it seems to happen as soon as I take my foot off the brake pedal after a full stop. I have attributed it to the brake system "recharging," to maintain pressure, but with the apparent complexity of SBC, I guess anything's possible.
