One Touch Close-sunroof

I have a 03 E320, I took it to the dealor due to the button for the sunroof control being cracked. The dealor will cover this under warranty however they stated that they could not just order the button, they had to order the whole light assembly.

Today I dropped the car off for that to be installed. When I picked the car up I noticed that the sunroof did ONE TOUCH tilt up and open but not ONE TOUCH tilt down or close ( must hold the button now for tilt down or close).

I also noticed that the PINCH sensor does not operate (sunroof reversing direction) when holding opposing force on the sunroof while button is held to the close position.

The Service Advison called the mechanic over to look at this and the mechanic told me this:

This may be a upgrade to the sunroof control. MB may have this programed in a "upgraded" way in that you now have to press AND HOLD the button to close it or tilt it down. He also stated that he will call MB and see what is going on with this.

What I invision is that I'm going to get an answer such as it is "operating as designed" (new and improved...yeah right!!)

I have searched past threads regarding "syncing" procedures but none of those have worked. I guess the question that I have at this point is:

1. Has anyone had this problem?
2. How to confirm that this is infact "operating as designed" if
they come back with that answer?

You would think that they would have something in writing that would state this "new" way of operating the sunroof IF in fact is designed that way. We all know the NEW cars on the lots are ONE TOUCH CLOSED as well....just like the rest of the windows.

Disipointed in the MBZ.....AGAIN

My E500 was built in 12/02 and I have to hold the button to close the sunroof. Did yours have one-touch close before the dealer touched it?

hmm, thats wierd, i have had one touch open, and close, in any direction. if the new cars do close with a one touch opertation, i would ask them why do the new ones have one touch, i dont understand why MB would change that....its a good safety option by having a one touch feature

I have a 10/02 build and would love to have one-touch close. Always thought it kinda weird that I can open it with one touch but have to hold it down to close it. Same for tilt. I'll stop by the dealer and give a few new ones a try. That is one software/hardware upgrade I want! I like the way my S4 did it with the dial - just turn it to the desired opening and forget it.

Question

Call the MB customer service line with the question.

Also, when the 2004 models come in check the function of the new cars to see who is right...........bet me that MB did not change the design and function.

My first E500 had one touch open but not close. My replacement car is the same way. At first I couldn't get it to open with one touch until I realized I was not pushing the button all the way. After that no problem.

Bmms8, you are the only one that I know of that has one button close too. Neither of my cars did that.

well, i mean......when you first try to close it, there is the barrier. i also have to pres the the button a little harder....that goes for all 3 ways, and all of the windows.

mb, i dont think i made myself clear, but i do have to press it past resistance.

Your tech must have ordered you the wrong parts. My understanding is that regular sunroofs have one touch open/closing where as Pana roofs only have one touch opening only.

if the wrong part can fit and work. I will tell my dealer to install it for my pano.

electric equipments is the weakest side in mb. not only on-touch roof, how about one-touch memory seat? (my bimmer has one-touch memory seat feature. why do I have to keep pressing memory button in e -- because I select the wrong brand?)

one-touch for pano roof

the penalty for me in picking the wrong brand is

when I hold the button to close the pano roof, if my finger hold it "too long" (how do I knows it is fully close???) the shade will be triggered. should mb provide a different button or a smart way in sharing a roof button?

MY 5/03 Build, E320 Sport requires holding the button to close the tilt. It is one touch open, close and tilt up, however.

One-touch open/close/tilt works fine on mine, built 5/03. Owner's manual also indicates one-touch function, but you must "move the switch past the resistance point" (pg. 187).

Built 11/02 - sunroof has 'one touch' open / close for both full open & tilt positions inclusive of resistance safety feature.

When I received my 12/02 build E500, the salesperson noticed that the one-touch open did work, but not the one-touch close. Service replaced the motor and all has been well since.

My mistake guys, upon further investigation my 5/03 Build E320 does have one-touch all around, including open/close/tilt open/tilt close.

Both my September '02 build pre-nav and the replacement I picked up today have the one-touch open/close/tilt on the sun roof.

Check it out again Mike....If it is not operating right, talk to the service manager. No excuse for them not to know the proper operation of the equipment.

You have had more than your share of problems and wierd happenings

I've learned so much from all of you! Thanks! Anyway, I read this yesterday and tried this feature today. I found that I have one-touch open on my pano (not one-touch for closing, however). Nice to know!

same as mine. (may be because of pano -- pano uses the same button for closing pano and shade.)

That seems to be the case with pano roofs although I don't know why they would be any different than the regular sun roofs as far as the one touch close. Oh well a minor inconvenience IMO for a wonderful option.
