anyone one got their side mirror stolen?
My friend recently got his stolen right in front of his house and it was the second time that it had happen to him. JUst like the acura and nissan headlight being ripped off. looks like our 211 mirrors are a hot items to those lil punks now. So if you live in Houston. Becareful where you park from now on.

Me too
It has also happened to me. I had to go to three dealers in order to one. It is apparently a common occurrence.
Also be sure to check to make you you get the "right" mirror—they make several models.

With a certain amount of modding, you can get the lights to to fit in a lot of different cars, so that must be the attraction. I remember for my Lexus GS that you could do a mod by buying the E-Class (w210) mirrors, and the design was similar so it made for a relatively easy mod.

well it happen again to another friend while he was at work. when he took his car to the dealer to see how much did the mirrors cost. there were 8 other cars there for the same problems. Dealer said it was very easy to take off. Just one good kick walking by and the mirrors fly off. Cut the wires and they are gone. Make me dont wanna drive my car anymore.

thieives?
Why are the thieives only interested in side mirrors? (not steal other valuable parts?)
The side mirrors may not fit other non mb cars because most of the cars do not send a turning singnals to the side mirrors.
Why does a non mb car owner want to install mb side mirrors? (let everyone know his car has "stolen" parts)
The side mirrors in new e in US are fixed. I don't see people really want this feature.
The side mirror is painted. thief needs to repaint it.
All mb dealers will not use stolen parts. there is very limited market for selling these stolen parts.
I think this merely a malicious sabotage.

I disagree. There are plenty of Civic ricers that can pretty easily take the components, and pretty easily retrofit the internal parts that are most important (the LED turn signals), and mold the plastic just a little bit to get them to fit, and then just run a wire as necessary. Or, just to have them lit up, they don't even need them to be working turn signals, nor do they need them to be a professional job. It seems to me that probably in Houston, there is suddenly a large market for these as, and I'm only guessing here, there are probably a few Civic drivers that did it (and not only Civics, but a lot of SUV's and the such), and now they want it. Sure, reputable dealers will not be installing these that way, but there are TONS of people who would be 1) willing to sell them stolen, and 2) be willing to do an amateur job of installing them.
It could be malicious, but is seems pretty widespread for it to be, based on his experiences in Houston.
