W211 Big Brakes

Hey everyone,

Well the next wear item I have to replace on my car will be the brakes as I have known for a while now, but I am waiting to get the notification on my dash as I still have a few mm of braking surface left.

My question is when I go to get new pads and rotors, what brands are recommended? There have been several threads on this and I have heard StopTech, EBC, and Powerstop are good.

Now that I am rolling on new wheels, and the brakes look fairly small, I was wondering if it is possible to install a larger disc while keeping the same general setup, as in getting some Brembo discs with my stop calipers? Is this possible, or how does this fitment work? I am very new with knowledge on brakes.

Thanks.

Which ever route you choose, a cheap and effective trick I have learned is to have the rotors cryogenically treated before install.

Some rotor manufacture's do offer cryoed rotors.

96 and 08 911 turbos
you could theoretically install a brake caliper bracket extender to raise up the caliper. That would allow you to run a larger rotor. Obviously you'll need to find a rotor of similar thickness.

That said, there are drawbacks to this, and really no advantage as you'd need to find a pad that fits the caliper, which will likely not take advantage of the large rotor diameter.

The bottom line is that this will be an expensive and ultimately frustrating experience.

If you absolutely must have bigger brakes, buy a big brake kit and do it properly so that you get the benefits along with the look.

My opinion is stick with stock mercedes brakes and rotors. No squeals, no vibration, and no brake dust (updated brake pads). The sensors fit perfect too. I've put aftermarket and OEM rotors and pads on other cars and after a few weeks, vibrations, lots of brake dust, and had to drill into the pad to get the brake sensor in. I don't think it's worth the headache - especially driving a 03 reliable

I will stick with the stock specifications then, thanks for the input. So EBC rotors arent too good?

Thumbs up Brakes

Recently did this on my 08 E350 4 Matic Sport

Replaced all four rotors w coated Zimmerman's and the pads with Pagid's.
Replaced the fluid w/ ATE Super Blue.

Stops great and no noise. Once the pads and rotors got together after a couple of hundred miles, Dust went way down.

Changing to different brakes can be a challenge to say the least. I would start with something in a bone yard with similar configs. i.e. same chassis, upgraded setup (Sport Chassis ) if you don't have already.

Good luck.

Hi, Racingbrake has the 2-piece rotor application for your car and is less expensive than the dealer or competition they also last a lot longer:

2003-08 E55/E63 (W210/W211) front rotor:

2003-08 E55/E63 (W210/W211) rear rotor:

Thanks. I don't have an AMG though so I know my rear rotor specs are different as it is a 4-Matic
