Terraclean engine decarbonising
I would just like to share my experience with a recent Terraclean, if you don't know what I'm on about click this link: www.terraclean.co.uk.
I had mine done at carmakeover in Wakefield last week and I have to say I am a bit sceptical normally with these things but it has made an incredible difference. My Merc E320 has 105,000 miles on it and the decarbonising took about 2 hours to run through, the car is now significantly quieter, certainly quicker and is giving me an additional 5-8mpg on average.
The best way to tell its making a difference is initially the car is kept at 2000 revs using a throttle positioner, the revs gradually increased by itself as the injectors etc were cleaned out and the throttle positioner adjusted back to 2000 revs each time is crept up.
The system cleans out the carbon build up throughout the engine and exhaust and cat etc, I can highly recommend it. Costs about £100 on a 3 litre car, there are places throughout the UK that are doing it too. Check out www.carmakeover.co.uk if you're in the West Yorkshire area and mention James, he's offered a trade discount if we get a few people to do it. I do not work for this company, only recommending as its the one I used

Great forum
I talked to the owner of a local Mercedes independent shop - he's been working with Mercedes in Europe and the US for most of his life - and he told me that if you drive lazy the car will start to develop these types of issues with carbon buildup and low-speed wear problems. I drive very spirited so haven't had these problems, but he said even if you drive very sedate/low-speed most of the time, do some hard accelerations occasionally on highway on-ramps or somewhere legal. Even though "driving hard" is considered bad for your car by some people, remember these are luxury performance cars and after almost a year of working with my car, my mechanic told me the car is in great shape and also very very healthy mechanically. So I strongly believe that spirited driving - as long as you're responsible, don't break any laws, and you maintain your car to factory spec - is not bad at all and helps with carbon buildup.

I also do not believe an earlier poster's claim that it can add 5 - 8 mpg.
But that's just me, today.

Also "lay into it"..... the Italian tune up will be effective for some things, but not effective for carbon buildup in the intake of a diesel engine.
