No oil for 1 mile - need I worry?

Something not discussed is the length of time this engine ran with no oil. Sure it only traveled 1 mile, however the op states in stop and go traffic and it was obviously run some at the dealership, at least twice without oil. Not good.

You will also find people that say you should prime (fill) the new oil filter before installing. I know on my car that this cannot be done because it goes on upside down. But on my motorcycle I can fill the oil filter with oil before installing it.
You can also find on the internet kits that pre-prime your engine before starting it, so I can only assume that there has been engine damage by running it dry for any extended period.

I can find lots of worthless things for sale.

I would not use their existence as proof of a need.
