Single CD slot doesn't work - COMAND

Single CD slot doesn't work - COMAND
My single CD slot (at the top) won't "suck in" any discs. It doesn't matter if the unit is on or off - and the EJECT button doesn't respond at all.
Just today I did the 1+3+8 and it asked for a update CD.
Voila! It sucked in the update disc with no issue, updated, and ejected the disc.
The update succeeded, but the single slot is still not working. I can force the disc all the way in until I can barely grab it, but the motor never "grabs" the disc and accepts it.
Am I doing something wrong or can anyone help??

Ok - it looks like I was just being too gentle with it. I gave the disc a hard shove and it sucked it in with no issue.
Also just found I can read MP3 DVDs!

The single CD slot worked 100% for a few days and just stopped accepting discs - again. It appears that the Comand unit is on the fritz.
After some searching, it sounds like this is not a common problem and the only fix is replacing the head unit.
Has anyone else seen this or have any suggestions on what to try?

I have a very similar issue with my CD unit also - it has never worked since I purchased the car in 2010.
It won't suck in a CD or spit one out. Randomly - maybe once a month - I will hear the unit "spinning" at which time I can insert a CD and it will suck it in, or I can press the eject button and it will spit one out if its in there. But once I do either of these things, the unit stops spinning and goes back to its old unresponsive self.
Any ideas? What is this 1+3+8?

If you hold down the numbers 1 + 3 + 8, the unit will ask for an update disc. This was the first time mine started "spinning". I'm pretty sure it's a coincidence now, but I thought this may have brought it back to life, if only temporarily.
For about 3 days, I was popping discs in and out, then after spitting out it's last one, it won't take any more.
I'm inclined to just let it be, although I would LOVE to play MP3 DVDs in the car. I guess the old iPod connected to Aux jack will be my next best solution.
I'm wondering if anyone has taken apart this head unit and fixed this issue. There is just the single disc drive for sale on eBay right now, so it looks like it's easily removed/replaced once the Comand unit is taken out.

I have a w211 e320 2004 which the dvd drive is not working at all.
The CD changer works fine.
I have pulled out the head unit and opened the unit to see what was happening.
There was a cd stuck in the drive which I have removed.
Now the drive does not suck any cd.
I can hear the motor spinning some times.
Any help will be appreciated.

my issue is in the my 2006 e350 4matic, my battery died, I jumped the car, after doing so, my single slot cd player doesn't eject the cd that's inside or it doe not work anymore, any suggestions ?

I own a C200K 2008 model. Problem is I was listening to a CD and decided to change the CD and next thing it says drive unavailable. I think there is a CD stuck. Any suggestion on how to get it working again or get the CD out?

having read the posts, and having the same issue i have done some homework, i have 2 options left...
take out head unit send it to a man in Bath who will fix it for £150....
take out head unit and replace the cd drive with the one available off ebay for £70...
Question is has anyone done or tried this???

I have the same sort of problem, mine says drive unavailable spits out ok though.
