Please help, Battery Dying Issue
I did a search each situation seemed to be a little different form mine. So I figured I would make my own thread.
I usually have my lights on Auto. About a week ago I left my lights on and it killed my battery.
I jump started the car, drove fine but it had this written on the speedo. "Battery Protection Conven. Functions Temporarily Unavailable."
It would come and go depends on how much I drive. Two days ago I had to jump start my car in the morning.
Then that night again dead battery. I went to AutoZone the guys ran a test on my battery in the trunk said it was fine just a little low and ran test on alternator said it was fine. Just that battery needs to be charged.
So I went for a long drive. Next morning car started fine. I worked from home and then this morning again completely dead.
Please help if you have any experience in this. Battery seems to be fine, alternator is fine, it takes the charge it just drains if I leave it sitting.
It's a 2003 E500.

Did you jump start it from another car? If so, it should have been off when connecting the cables and start attempt, to avoid any spikes. These cars do have sensitive electronics.
It's always best to charge the battery, if possible, rather than jump start.

Hey all. Good news. I took it to Autozone. They charged both batteries for me for free. Put them back in and day 3 everything is working fine. Haven't seen the errors yet.
I think after jump starting it the battery would never fully charge. Just have to get them fully charged.

BCM might be going bad. The function of the BCM is to control the battery drain when not in operation. MB has updated this part several times in last 4 years.
After couple of days if your battery drains dramatically, I would get the BCM checked out. Other culprit might be alternator or battery itself. But I have rarely seen alternator going bad.

On my 2010 GLK350, I have the same problem. I have the Power Jump Pack which starts the car right away, but after charging the battery overnight with a charger, the battery shows full charge. After a few starts during the day, it dies again. It gas 46200 miles.

navreet, check voltage before starting car should be around 12 volts after starting the reading should be 14.2 approximately, this will tell you the charging system is working fine. Your battery if run down previously from sitting or leaving the lights on. Some parasitic drain when the car is shutoff is also plausible. Have battery load tested if you are seeing 14+ volts when car is running. May be time for a battery as these cars can be power hogs. Good Luck!
