E320 - 2003
DI-Gas Engines. Would You Wait until 2004?
I understand that the new engine techology (Direct Injection Gas engines) will not make it into the 2003 E-Class, but will be available in 2004.
Does anyone have thoughts on whether it would be a good idea to wait until 2004? Would YOU wait? If so, why?

Nothing beats new technology! If you are in no hurry and have transportation - Why Not Wait! I waited more than a year to get the current engine in my previous E430. I was going to buy an 97 E420 and when I read about the new modular twin plug V6 and V8 - I waited. I had to wait additional months because the E430 did not debut in the US until FEB 1998. The 1998 V6 models came in September 1997. Good Luck!

I agree, if there's no rush, you might as well wait for the better goods!
My justification for this of course comes from the new CLK-Class. You will notice four models with pretty much equivalent outputs. Those being the CLK270 CDI, the CLK200 Kompressor, the CLK200 CGI, and the CLK240.
The CDI we can throw out because it's a diesel. Of the three, you can see that the CLK200K gets the least horsepower, and the the CGI gets the same output as the CLK240. I see two things from this:
1. A 2-liter CGI gets slightly more output than a 2-liter WITH a supercharger.
2. A 2-liter CGI gets the same output as a larger 2.6-liter engine.
The verdict: wait for the direct-injection engines!!

Just to point out that the CLK200CGI and CLK200Kompressor has 1.8L engines instead of 2.0L. Eagerly awaiting comments/reviews on the smoothness of the new engines, whether MB's claims that they are as smooth as six-cylinder engines are true.

Accounting for Univsn's comment...
we can see that the 1.8 4-cylinder CLK200 CGI gets the same output as the 2.6 V6 CLK240.
Even better huh? I'm sure acceleration and torque will vary and whatnot, but we'll see.

DI-GAS ENGINES
From what I've been reading, the DI-Gas engines will be offered only in the 4 cylinder versions, although they claim an equivalent to the v6 E320 in smoothness.
It will probably be 3 years before we see it in Canada.

Thanks for the info....but thats way too long to wait. I needed my 4matic this winter here and already have to wait another 1.5 years. To wait longer than that....

Sean, If you need/want a 4Matic you probably already know that the supply is very short and demand is very high. The current 2002 4Matic will be the last of its kind for maybe 2 years. Good Luck in finding one. My salesman had to trade a 2002 4Matic wagon to get my 2002 E55 from another dealer.
