First service warning. What exactly does "carryout service b+" ('03 E320) mean and how much should it cost me?

If that is a message on the instrument panel....it won't cost anything. All service if free for the first 4 years (including oil) or 50K miles.
I got the message "Service B due at 10,000 miles" or close to that on my pre-nav car.
I have not heard of "carry-out service B+". Nobody ever mentioned that here to my knowledge.
Where did you see it?

Instrument panel. Counted down service b due + mileage and now reads carryout service b+. Have not had the opportunity to address - my guess is that it's telling me I'm past due for service. Wanted to be sure though.

The plus sign after the B means that you should have your brake pads checked when you have the car serviced. See page 275 of the Operator's Manual.

You are the first one I remember that had the brake "+" come on.

By the way, are brake pads covered or are they out-of-pocket? If so, what's the average cost to replace?

Brake pads are wear items and not covered.
I can't believe that you would need new pads at 12k miles.
I had over 18k on my pre-nav and no sign of brake wear.
Must be something else. Better take it in soon.

I would be surprised if it refers to brakes service.
I have done 19000 miles and am yet to have first service. Indicates another 4000 miles to go. And then, it seems, its expecting service C

Marc, I may be wrong but I thought that service intervals were approximately every 12k miles although the interval can vary depending upon your driving style and your driving conditions. Maybe the 12k interval only applies to U.S. E's and not to U.K. E's. 23k just seems to be a long way to drive without an oil change.
