I think you are starting from the wrong place-----I would be asking my self, what do I want to do with an OBD scanner, remembering that all of them will not read the MB body, transmission and chassis faults-----therefore if you are looking for a fashionable scanner that will match your swim ware, I would look for the least expensive scanner I could find, but yet something that I could talk about at dinner-----because in the finally you will be all over the internet frustrated and asking what does this fault mean.

Thanks for your input, yeah I guess your right, I'm just looking for something to scan my car once in a while and check for any codes or defaults.
Do you own a scanner?

I have had GREAT luck with my $19 Costco "Code-Key" scanner. (unfortunately it is discontinued)
It does not read MB specific stuff, but reads the P codes I have had and has provided both code and text descriptions.
As long as it reads CAN also, it is probably worth the $50, but you can find them cheaper on EBAY.
Yes, it would be good to have a $300 to $700 Hacked SW MB scanner, but these are not worthless as long as you know how to google and read.
P.S. It would be great is people would report which have given good results.
I am thinking of trying one of the USB scanners simply because I figure SW can always be updated as opposed to what is hard coded in a scanner when you buy it.
(Yes a MB system is on my tools list, but probably won't invest until the first time my Code-Key leaves me hanging.)
EDIT:
Just looked that one up, and for $50 it looks like it has a lot of features that my 2 button scanner is missing.

Yes he is a forum member. I bought mine from him some time ago and it works with cars up to the 2012 model year which is fine with me because my newest benz is a 2011 GL. Not quite sure what he offers as of now. I think Plutoe also purchased his system from Shardul as well. I chose to pay the extra 150 because he backs up all his products. He responds to calls/texts/pm's and is always more than willing to answer any das xentry or even car problems in general. You will not get this kind of service from a chinese vendor.

Thanks, Im going to have to hit him up to see what he offers now. One more question. I see a lot of these sellers offering the complete system with a separate hard drive. Do you know what the hard drive is used for? I mean if the laptop comes preloaded with the software, whats on the hard drive?

The systems seem to either be sold with a laptop ready to go, sold with a hard drive to install in your laptop, or sold with an external laptop to run on your computer.
Being Cheap, I keep looking at the do it yourself route, but I just know in the end I am going to end up spending more.

Regarding the hard drive---think about it---you take one out and put the other in---he is trying to save you some money.
Just be very carful who you buy from!!!
