Keyless Go Alarm???

I read in another forum that cars equipped with the Keyless Go feature produce a very annoying alarm to remind you to take your key everytime you open the door to enter or leave.

Can anybody confirm this? I've ordered this option but our test drive car didn't have this feature.

True - however, extent of how annoying it is depends on personal preferences. It's a chiming bell sound evertime you open the door. Not sure why it's necessary though since you can't possibly lock your keys in the car with keyless go...if the system senses the key pod in the car when you close the door, the doors can not be locked.

Chime shuts off when car started or after about a minute, whichever first.

Thanks Hudson. How do you like this feature in general?

That's what I thought at first that perhaps MB has allowed the customer to set the option to sound the alarm on or off. But Hudson's signature says he has the 2004 E.

I also have a 2004 E500 with keyless go and have the chime. I was wondering if there was a way to turn it off.

I haven't found a way to disable it permanently but if you press either of the menu buttons on the left side of the steering wheel it will turn it off while you have the door open, etc. I agree it is sort of useless since the car won't lock if you have left the key in a jacket or whatever in the car.

Don't worry about it - you'll enjoy the feature.

Bmms8 was right.....it does turn out to be the best/favourite feature My dad loves it! Everything is jus so much easier simply b,coz you dont have to worry about the keys. You do have some funny experiences though:p one time my dad got out of the car and tried locking the car (by pressing the button on the handle) but the car wouldnt lock.....and then my dad realised he hadnt turned the engine off :p lolz! Although its not an essential option.....its an option that my dad likes so much that he's decided already that whteva car we get next he will definately order keyless-go

I think the feature with the alarm is spesific to US cars. Europeen cars do NOT have this "gong". And I must say, I just love Keyless Go.

AND...the keyless alarm overrides any other alarm. it's very easy to forget to turn your fogs off since the light alarm mutes while the key-less go keeps on beeping.

Ditto, that the KG alarm trumps others. I left my lights on during an errand last night as a result (I heard "There is a Mercedes with its lights on. You are running down your battery!").

I definitely don't mind the alarm now since I just got the car and have to get comfy with the feature, but down the road I'll want it to shut up.

It's the only feature on my car I didn't want, and, of course, it's easily my favorite (well, tied for first with the white gauges).

2018 E400 4matic Wagon
I thought KG was a waste of money until I mentioned it to my wife and she pointed out that whenever she goes somewhere with our baby (meaning whenever she goes anywhere), she has to take the key out of the ignition, put it away in her pocketbook (women generally don't have pockets in their pants, and she has a large key case), take her pocketbook, put the baby in the stroller, shut the rear door, and then take the key out of her pocketbook again and hit the remote.

If she had KG, she'd just shut the rear door and walk away with baby.

For me, personally, using the remote is no effort, but I see my wife's point. So, when we do order a new E-class wagon, it looks like we'll order it with keyless go.

Less than a week in, I'm still reaching for my key, then remembering that I don't need it.

It's the type of technology that rates a 0.5 on the scale of necessity, put a 10 on the scale of cool.

I did find a drawback to it today: I arrived at my car at the same time as the guy who was parallel parked in front of me. I was in the car, engine started and ready to pull away, but he was blocking my path still fumbling to get his key in the door!

He looked back with a look of "How the heck did you do that so fast?"
