Dual Flywheel question (maybe not Mercedses)

Hello,

I hear a grinding noise when I press the clutch pedal.

I think the dual flywheel is getting out of order ( the car is a Peugeot 407HDI 2.0 liters).

I was told that a solution could be to weld the two flywheel masses. What do you think?
IS THIS A GOOD SOLUTION?
If welded would it create later more serious problems on the engine/ gear box?

Did someone have any experience and already done it?

Could he post some information, or to tell me where welding spots have to be, any pictures would be useful?

Thank you in advance for your advice

My experience has been when with pressure on the pedal grinding noise is the throw out bearing failing if it is of the ball type. Otherwise next item would be pressure plate. In rare cases where rivets fail on the clutch friction disc you might get noise but I would expect vibration due to the disc moving a small amount and rivets moving within the friction material.

In any case welding a multiple disc is not a good plan. What really needs to happen is pull the clutch find the problem and install new clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing/pilot bearing.

No short cuts here do it correctly or you are in for more trouble and a tow.

I have the dual fly wheel set up on my BMW. As you know dual mass flywheels can be very expensive. I had the clutch replaced last May & you are able to cut the flywheel once if it has minimal wear. The other option for the BMW was switching over to a single mass fly wheel which will work fine, BUT will be a little noisey at idle from the throw out bearing.

I was able to cut mine & that along with a completely new clutch set up as well as trans bushings & drive shaft bushings everything works fine & as good as new.
