Oil level confusion

Hey everyone, I just recently purchased a 2005 E500 4matic with 109k miles. I absolutely love the car coming from an E46 325i. Anyway, I was going through the settings and I came across the oil level. It says to add 1.5 quarts to achieve max oil level. Since the car doesn't have a dipstick and I don't trust the sensors I was a bit skeptical and didn't want to immediately put in 1.5 quarts and risk overfilling it. So I put in half a quart of mobil 1 0w-40 and ran the engine and let it sit for around 5-10 minutes. I checked the level again and it still says add 1.5 quarts... I looked online and found another way to check the oil level which involves pressing the reset button three times and it comes to the oil page and it says the level in quarts. It says 6.2 quarts. Unfortunately I didn't check this page before I added the oil so I cant compare. The cars due for an oil change anyway but I want to make sure im not low on oil. Could my oil sensor be bad? What should I do next? Thanks so much and I am very excited to become part of the community!

I also played with the settings today and it told me to add 1.5 quarts of oil.

Why not do the oil change as planned and measure what comes out if it is close to 6.2 then you will know. Then add back the required amount and see what the car says

I was thinking of taking it to mercedes and having them do it but I had that idea as well and I think its best if I do it. Should it be 7.5 or 8?

W211 take 8.5 qts when drained/refilled. I just did mine 2 weeks ago and that's what came out.. Checked via the MFD and it reported something like 7.3, so it's not particularly accurate.

Check your owners manual as different models and even years can have different requirements. I know that my local dealers do a basic oil change using approved oil and fluid for around 89.99-99.99 for gas cars and like 129.99 for diesels.

Well i ended up taking it to the dealer for an oil change because I didnt have time this week and I didnt want to drive if it was low on oil. Checked the level after the oil change and its at 7.5 which is where it should be.

Again, inaccurate because the E500 takes 8.5 quarts. Pg 400 of the user manual (2004)

Yes but the oil filter and housing holds almost one quart.

Negative, when engine is cold, oil has drained out of the filter/housing.

After about 30 minutes it is almost impossible for every drop of oil to drain to the bottom.

You're missing the point and that is that the MFD is NOT accurate. A full qt is not remaining in the filter/housing. When I drained mine, I measured a full 8.5 qts in the drain pan..

Well I told my service guy that I was worried about the sensor being incorrect and he assured me it wasn't. I payed for 9 quarts of oil which tells me they put in the correct amount and kept the extra half quart. I trust this dealership as my family has been dealing with them for over 20 years. I guess well find out next time I change my oil if they put in the correct amount.

More confused...Oil level

On my '05 E500 4M, my last oil change was in 3/2014 when I got the car. I've put ~6500 miles on it since. I plan to change oil in approx. 3-4k miles (or 4/15). So, I normally check my oil level in the MFD and it ALWAYS says level OK. I recently decided to check my oil level with the "3 press reset button" method, so i can see the actual amount in the pan and I got this -:-. I see all the other info about S/W version, VIN, etc. but a blank for oil level. Anyone has any ideas why my info display won't read the oil level??

I've never had a warning to Add or remove oil; no chimes or message to change my oil; actually my service G in due in 5K miles, but i plan to do it in 3-4K, hence my next upcoming oil change. I just would like to know the amount of oil in my oil pan, since i was told these engines could use a quart or so between changes. I drive mostly on the weekends, so maybe I'm not burning any oil, but like to know either way. I will have to measure what comes out in a few months
