2004 Mercedes-Benz E500 4Matic Wagon
Bought my first E-Class, need a couple tips

I recently bought a 2004 E500 4Matic Wagon, so far I love the car, I got an awesome deal on it, and it has a great package, I believe it has every package available for its year beside the parking assistance/sensors.

Now here are a few questions I have:

1. Is there a way to lower the car without aftermarket airbags/struts? and if so does it work the same as the Audi A8?

2. This one is for the future. Are there any good and reliable performance upgrades for it?

3. I have a navigation system in the car, and I have the phone option, however I couldn't find a way to connect or "install" my phone to it, how can I connect my phone to it?

Since we are on the subject of the Navigation system I also have a question or two about the stereo. Is there an AUX port in the back of the stereo? And if not, is there a good 3rd party equipment to connect an AUX cord so it would play through the stock stereo?

Stock sub-woofer, for a stock sub-woofer it sounds pretty good, but I feel like on calm songs the lows are overshadowed by the highs and mids, and after I messed with the sound settings it is still not performing as good as my I would like it to be, and the main reason is because it is missing the lows. Is there a replacement sub for it? Or is there a good way to replace it with something like an aftermarket 8 inch sub?

That's all I can think of as of right now, any tips, and answers will be appreciated. Oh and this is a daily driven car, however I am looking to make a project by putting some good rims on it, and dropping it about an inch or inch and a half.

Thank You all!

1. I don't know how Audi works but if you want to lower a W211 with AirMatic then you can:

A. Have someone with Star Diagnostic software do it.
B. Install a lowering module.
C. Install lowering links.
D. Install washers where the sensors are.

2. There aren't too many things that you can do to extract power from the M113 engine, but there are a few. The best bang for the buck is a tune. Headers are good, but expensive. Air filters are not noticeable.

3. I don't know.

Thank you! I will try to find some with Star Diagnostic software, any tips on what kind of a shop would have it?

Is there a 3.5mm Aux in the glove box, around the top? I know it depends on config. Phone again depends on what equptment you have or the previous owner had/added such as some sort of bluetooth puck in the center consol. Lot's of threads about audio/nav/phone.

Yes!! I found the 3.5mm AUX in the glove box! Thank you, time to go out and buy an AUX cord.

In my center console I got nothing by two bottons. No other equipment in there.

Got the AUX cord, surprisingly is actually sounds better then CDs, and you can hear the lows come out a bit more, still considering of buying a more powerful amp that would fit in the spot of the stock one, and getting a slim JL sub in there. Has anyone attempted this before?

The phone connects in the console by first snapping into the connector a special phone cradle which basically looks like a plastic belt holster that engages the charging/connecting port in the phone to the connector and the antenna of the phone to the roof antenna. You must use a special phone running MB software so that the phone wakes up when you enter the car.

I have a Verizon V-710 phone and console mount/cradle available for sale which I took out of my 2007 E 550 when I traded it. I kept that phone on a Family plan and left it always connected in the car so it is in mint condition. It integrates 100% with the COMAND and gives all features MB designed into the system. (See wireless4MB.com for addl info )

Is it really worth it to put a cradle in and get an older phone that would work with it? The only feature is making calls and speaking on the phone on the speaker hands free, right? I wish Bluetooth would be out back in 2004, all of my family drives BMW and there Bluetooth connection works awesome.

I liked it. As more States make it illegal to use a hand held device & drive back then, the built in phone was great for me to have. Also, the built in phone uses the car's roof antenna for the best reception and charges the whole time the engine is live. As I said, the "car phone" was a separate number "Family Share" billing from Verizon, so I didn't snap the phone in every time I got into the car. It was always there.

The advantage to you is that these cradles and phones are inexpensive to buy now used. Back then they were sold only by one company at high list prices. If you decide that is the way for you to go shoot me a PM, I'll sell you mine since I traded my 2007 in back in November 2014 on a 2015 ML.

"car phones" died because no one wants to talk to a CAR.

People carry their phones on their person so that they can be reached directly rather than having their friends have to try several numbers to track them down. It's a fact that even "home phones" are becoming a thing of the past. No one wants to talk to a house!

"car phones" bad.... bluetooth connection from car to "people phones" good

For performance upgrades for your car visit www.renntechmercedes.com they have a list of upgrades. A buddy of mine has the same car as you that they did a tune supercharger and full exhaust on. You'll of course end up paying a premium for their stuff just like anyone else that makes parts for our cars.

I found it easier to get the aftermarket solution from Mobridge thru midcity engineering. It was expensive ~$850, but added bluetooth audio, and an ipod in addition to the phone. Best of all everything worked on the command/steerwing wheel/instument display. I know it's also possible to buy the MB parts, but it depends on how your car is configured/prewired as to how many parts are necessary.

Yeah there parts are pretty pricy, not sure if worth it, but if my quarterly check will be nice I will definitely invest into a few things from there! Thanks for showing me these guys!

Well small update, but since I have been working 7 12s for past couple months I had no time to do anything to the car,I finally got 3 days off. Tomorrow I wanna tint the windows(not diy but take it to a professional), and do a exhaust modification, hopefully everything goes as planned!

One more question, yellow fog light bulbs, yes/no/maybe?
