E class production cuts & prices

I have read in various sources that MB has or is cutting back on E class production due to slacking demand. Anyone else hear this or know anything? If true, might this help one get a better price? Its usually easier to get a decent deal when demand is lower.

Where did you read this? Please share us some info. I am not sure about the production cuts, etc. but few colleagues told me that some dealers start offering deal.

Please confirm.

DC could care less if dealers have to discount to move them, they get their money for every car sold, even if the dealers can't get MSRP for the cars. DC needs all the sales they can get, Chrysler is still draining money from them. until dealers stop ordering cars, they will make them. when you go to a dealer lot here around NYC, you see very little E inventory.

Source of info

I frequent the Roadfly boards, where there have been several discussions and links to sites discussing the issue. I am neither sufficiently computer literate to post my own links, nor can I vouch for the accuracy of the claims, hence my post here. I too have seen NY dealers on the greedy side (what else is new in the People's Republic of NY??) and was hoping this could be a way to a better deal.

I am missing your point, are you saying that you have read someplace else that production cuts are taking place to boost prices?

No- I've read that production has

been cut due to less demand. I merely speculate that less demand may mean a better price for those currently contemplating buying an E class.

They might be slowing down production, but the initial jump for a new model (a successful one - this one quite wildly successful) is one year, typically. I find it funny that the new 5-series is out and I've seen perhaps 4 or 5 since they launched, and this in Southern CA. I see 4 or 5 E-class W211 in a day...guess the new 5 isn't going well. Gee, I wonder why...

this is probably why they are so slow to fix bugs and "fix" missing things like radio preset steering wheel controls; sales are strong, no reason to mess with success.

It is possible that the info on production cuts are either complete BS from rapid BMW enthusiasts trying to defend the ghastly looking new 5 series. Or, perhaps they prefer to worldwide production. Either way, I own a 530 (my 4th BMW) and never until recently thought of an MB. The new and terribly designed 5 series gave me pause to look at MB. If the prices are right and trade values not too bad I may well go for it in the next year or so. I'd like it now, but my car is only 1 1/2 yrs old and I just can't justify it this quickly unless I get the deal of the century. Besides, there is a decent chance the 7 speed trans may be available next year w/ the E500 4matic.

SoCal has had deep discounts on the E class for a while now. $1000-2000 under invoice is normal. That doesn't stop them from sellign like hot cakes it seems. I think the discounts are more a product of competition btw the dealers than lack of demand.

Most BMW owners I know of think the Bangle cars look like crap.

Yes, there was talk last Fall about curtailing production of the E on at least one of the lines. As I recall it was not Sindelfingen where most of the E's are manufactured. Whether it ever materialized I don't know. The reporting I believe was on Auto Spies as I recall and they have been less than 100% when it comes to accuracy of their information.

From the sales figures reported above it sounds like any cut back was probably more a slow down in ramping up production. When I was in Germany last month all of the manufacturing was down for the holidays and they were not planning to start up again until after January 6th. I was a little surprised that an approximate three week break was being taken mid model year, but I guess that is normal. I guess with the union agreements Mercedes' hands are probably tied and they would have to pay some super overtime to keep production going through the holidays.

And this my friends, is the reason we can write all the letters we want, ***** about our cars not driving straight, radio's not working etc. They DON'T CARE !!! And with figures like this, who can blame them. Only when people stop buying their cars will quality improve.
