Last edited by jbmaxx; Feb 5, 2004 at 11:21 AM.
I'm hoping for a positive ending as well. We will see. My car was delivered 10/21/03 as an 04 4matic.
I will keep you all posted.
Maybe this will be the policy for all non active cars witch should have had the Active Headlights installed! This is in the US.
I will be ( retrofitted ) with Active Headlights next week. The dealer has received all the parts for the installation. 2004 E500 Wagon, sport package. The car was built in Sep. 2003.

In my window sticker, it only says:
322: Appearance Package
Bi-xenon headlamps
5spoke 17" wheels
sculpted lower body works
nothing said 339 or 319 about active light. My car production date is 12/03 and it is 2004 E500. Did you contact local dealer or MB to have the active headlight installed? One more thing, I live in San Francisco, CA and I bought the car from the dealer in LA. Man, should I drive down to LA or I can just have local dealer take care of it?
Keep me posted what the result will be okay. I paid $60k for the car with active headlight installed (even though some said it's no use), but still I would like to get what advertised.

"Bi-Xenon cornering lamps, Headlamp Washers, Black Birds Eye Maple Trim, Blue Tinted Glass, LED Brake Lights, Semi-Active Suspension, Sculpted Side Skirts, Front Bumper, Rear Apron, 17" Sport Wheels with 245/45 R 17 tires. The E500 Appearance Package includes leather interior and Semi-Active Suspension both of which are standard on the E500. "
"Cornering lamps" should mean corenering lamps, right?
This was the deciding factor in there decision to metro fit, Option Sheet I
This car was purchased in NY.

by the way, anyone here with e-class, what carpet floor mat do you use? i'm trying to find a floor mat which is fit into the car. not sure which one, but for sure i want the interior look good and match.
The appearance package code that includes the cornering headlights is 422.
I just picked up my car this afternoon, and the 422 package code is the new appearance with the active cornering headlights
I also got the car with active headlight. MBUSA is not very helpful so I talked to MB SF where I got the car. They offered one of the three things:
1) put the active headlight when it becomes avalaible (and if possible... Apparently they are less inform then the guys over at the east coast)
2) Half price on the mobile phone system (so.. something like $100 installed? or something close to it)
3) Free Nav system when it becomes avaliable as a retofit item in March (I don't believe they will be avaliable though)
Honestly... I don't want them to rip open my headlight units to put in the active headlight system and reprogram my computer. I think it may cause more problems for my car in the long run . Since I don't have the mobile phone system installed I will probably ask them to do it for free, or at least something very cheap.
so we'll see how that goes. I think you guys can call LA and ask for some compensation... MB dealers are usually quite nice (unlike MB USA)

The "non cornering" xenon lights are part of appearance package 322.
...talked with the dealer and he said he should be able to re-order for end of April, first week of May delivery. Apparently, only #422 can be ordered now anyway and I noticed that the MBUSA web page has been updated to show the correct code too. Oh well.. I waited this long, what's another 10 weeks.
The active retrofit has been done. The lights look slightly deferent, the internal lens in the light itself is more recessed in its housing. They told me that the hardest part was programing a number of instructions into the computer. I will see in the next couple of days what deference they make.
Well its retrofit time for all of you who ordered these lights and didn’t get them!!
Good luck to all.
OK!

Please post any update about the active headlight.
1. I'd like to know if it is "A-MUST-HAVE FEATURE" and really significant. If not, I'll leave the car as is. What I am afraid of is that programming and programming... if the installer is not careful enough I am afraid that it will affect other functions as E-Class is just like robotic car...
Mercedes-Benz USA is pleased to announce the availability of our Bi-Xenon headlamps with active curve illumination system.
Additionally, we would like to announce some improvements in the seating options lineup for MY05 E-Class, which take effect with the MY05 E320 CDI diesel
1) MY04 E-Class Bi-Xenon headlamps with active curve illumination system.
This option, which monitors E-Class' steering angle and driving speed, activelyshifts the headlamp beams to either side to better follow the curvature of the road. Available as of January 1st decade scheduling, it can be ordered in 2 different packages:
339 Lighting Package
422 Lighting Package
These newly coded packages replace the 319 Lighting and 322 Appearance packages, which were built with Bi-Xenon headlamps prior to January production.
I will not bother with #2 on CDI seats since this string is about the h/lamps. If anyone wants a copy of this letter, pmail me at aufever@prodigy.net
