Question Instrument Backlight Illumination

The 2004 model E320 is supposed to have a glacier blue back light illumination to the instrument dials. Is this so and can anyone post a picture of it? Also my E320 is a 2003 model year and the instrument dials are white/grey at night. Would it be easy to change the lights to the new blue colour?

I have a E500 wagon with the sport package, the look of the backlight as far as I can tell looks like a neutral white not blue.

Yeah, I was expecting the blue backlight too and was a little disappointed to not see it added. Perhaps this will be on the AMG package coming out since the AMG style gauges remained white on the 2004 E Class appearance package despite what the 2004 brochure says. Good question about the bulb though. I think it would be worth it to add a blue bulb if that is all it would take.

Question

I have asked my dealer about this to see if it would be possible to take the instrument binnacle out and replace the bulbs with blue ones. They have said that you cannot do this as the whole of the front dash board would have to be taken out. I think they are trying to put me off as i know that in the C class it is very easy to remove the instrument binnacle. I am sure it must be possible to do this with the E class. Any views would be appreciated

white dials here too --- and what about the blue tinted glass -- I cannot tell if I have this option (from all the brochures it looked), very visible but perhaps I do not have it under the right light ?

Isnt this standard ?

BLUE GLASS

You can tell if you have the blue tinted glass if on the windows you see the name
SOLEXTRA. This is the site for PPG - http://www.ppg.com/gls_autoglass/solextra.asp

Thanks JB ---> Just checked the windows and it says SOLEXTRA on all of em.

Do you know what conditions make the blue tint most visible ? Is it just the more sun the more blue they get ?

the instrument lights (i believe) look blue in the photographs but in real life they are a greyish white.

When i drive and i look out my side view mirror or rear view, the headlights of the car behind me appear green. Thats how you know if the car has blue tinted glass.

Regarding the blue tinted glass, it's much easier to tell when you have the panorama roof since it lets in much more light. If the panorama shades are open during daytime and you look at the car, you should be able to clearly see the blue tint. It's very cool effect.

It's hard to tell if you're looking at the car in the garage or in the shade.

Hope this helps!

The appearance package here is the Avant Garde package in europe, which includes the blue tinted glass. its more noticeable with ash interior..trust me if you have the appearance package, you have the blue tint.

Pip,

Whether it is difficult to replace the instrument bulbs or not, the instrument panel is removable without disassembling the dash. The instructions are shown on the MB Training web site. My interest would be to figure out how to reduce the backlighting since it appears to bright to me even when turned as low as possible.
