door sill (sorta) fabric
I find that when entering or exiting the e class the door sill gives way to a little rise that is finished in fabric which tends to get dirty if any passenger or driver inadvertently rubs the part with their shoe. is there any sort of aftermarket finish that covers this with plastic or some other material to make it more durable and easier to clean?
all cars i have owned in the past have some type of plastic covering for the part most likely to catch a shoe while entering or exiting a vehicle. thanks.

Educate your passengers. A pet peeve of mine. I always tell all my passengers to be careful when entering or exiting. How many new cars look abused beause of scuffed up door sills. And this is not a Mercedes problem, all cars have this problem.

The duct tape sounds like a possible solution. The charcoal interior has black material on the threshold that shows the dirt as quickly as any color. I have seen an ad for clear duct tape that might be good for any color and may look less offensive to sensitive individuals. I have also seen some people who have the painted areas "Stoneguarded".

Ever since I saw a similar thread about the lack of protection for the left foot rest area, I have been thinking about the using the clear plastic carpet protector that they sell in Home Depot. They used this during renovations in my office and I was really impressed with the traffic that it withstood. I believe that it would be virtually undetectable if applied with the approriate care.

I guess the ducktape idea is the best, but isn't it tough on the fabric? What I mean is when you do decide to remove it, it might take the fabric with it. I own both generations of E classes and not only do I find that it is much easier to get dirt on the edges of the door, the rear is also slightly smaller. Can someone explain this? I know that the interior has not decreased in dimensions (in fact it has increased in width/shoulder room), but why in the world does it seem smaller? I sometimes sit in the backseat and I notice that there is less toespace. Please, someone explain to me why MB has decided to do all this? Why didn't they make the car easier to get into and bigger on the inside?

Clear duct tape
This looks like a good solution for all color interiors. http://www.3m.com/us/office/scotch/transducttape/ Now to find a place to buy a roll.
