New owner with tire question
I recently found this mint condition 2008 with 90K on the clock. The first thing I noticed was the ride quality was not as good as my 1998 E320 that had Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires. After some investigating I realized the 2008 is supposed to have larger tires on the back. At the present time it is equipped with 245/40 ZR18 at all four corners. Both of the 9 inch rims have been placed on the right side of the car. I'm not certain how much difference this makes but I intend to change that real soon. The tires are about ready to be replaced anyway so now is a good time.
My question is in regard to ride quality. The current tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. How many people are running these tires and is the ride quality to your liking? I'm not as concerned about handling as I am a smooth comfortable ride. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

conti pro contacts are what you want if you desire a nice ride quality. I replaced my AS3's on the front because the tire noise from the michelins drove me insane.

2008 E350 4Matic, 2011 E350 4matic
I guess your car isn't a 4matic right? Otherwise they would have the same size tires on the front and rear. As for the tires, mine are the Michelin A/S 3, they came with the car. They seem fine to me, maybe yours are more worn down or the weird setup is contributing to your problem. Conti Pro are also pretty popular too.

Your E320 had a comfort suspension with 16 inch rims while your new one has a sport suspension with 18's. Softer tires can help a little but it will never be as good.

I have AS3s and I think they are awesome. I have an '03 E320 Sport with 17" wheels. The ride is smooth and the tires stick very well. I drove from the DC area to Chicago last month. It was raining for the second half of the trip. I averaged ~75 mph and the car never slipped. I like these tires so much I am getting a set for my '99 BMW 740iL.
