European Delivery Now -7%

"MONTVALE, N.J., Feb. 2 -- European Delivery is becoming an even more popular "option" for those picking up a new Mercedes during their European vacation. Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) announced today that it will boost the price advantage of their European Delivery program to seven percent off the total vehicle price (manufacturer's suggested retail price plus all factory options and accessories), beginning with deliveries after February 2, 2004. In the past, five percent was deducted from the base price of each European Delivery vehicle."

Wow, that sounds great. Then again, that's what BMW offers. I got that discount when I got my 330i last may.

That's great news

Does this discount apply across the board or only select models?

Any ideas here?

Thanks in advance

Here's the rest:
"The European Delivery program includes 2004 C-Class sedans, coupes and wagons; E-Class sedans and wagons; CLK coupes; S-Class sedans and SLK roadsters. Limited-production models, such as the CL coupes, SL roadsters and AMG models, are not part of the program. The all-new 2005 SLK roadsters which are due out in autumn 2004 will also be an exception to the rule."

Jim

Many thanks for your insight.

One thing that always bugged me was the CLK.

I am wondering when MBUSA indicates CLK coupe, are they also including the CLK convertible.

After my wife and I saw Mercedesfan's photos on European delivery, she became excited about it and wants me to look into it. I just hope that this program covers the CLK convertible too.

Any insight to that?

Thanks

The best source to verify even this press release would be your dealer. If the convertible is hard to come by, chances are it's not included.

We've been thinking about going over in September to pick up a new E320 CDI but with all the problems described here, we're not so sure now.

There were several things that attracted us to the European pick-up. First of all is the obvious, you get a great car to drive while you're over there but you also have the opportunity to (possibly) get a new E320 CDI that might still be hard to get in the States and then you can also get a color combination that would have a special order cost in the States.

On the other hand, if you can get a new E-Class in the States for under Invoice, the 7% might not be that great a deal.

I don't know if you will have to pay the $720 US delivery price if you choose European delivery. Also, it takes 6-8 weeks for cars delivered to the West Coast.

This discount will pay for the round trip air fare for two people from Phoenix with no restrictions other than buying the ticket 14 days before the trip.

Go to MBUSA, select European Delivery and then configure the car you want. They'll tell you what it will cost (unless you can get a better deal from a dealer).

I was wrong, they still charge the one-time surcharge for special color combinations and MBUSA still show the 5% discount rather than the 7%.

A dealer showed me the news release as reported on Netstar. There was no reference about the 7% discount applying to options beyond the price of the car as in the above quoted news release. Of course it did not say the discount would not apply to options either. Maybe we will get more clarification form someone who has attempted to take advantage of this new program by placing a European Delivery Order after February 1st.

I spoke to the Euro Delivery specialist at the local dealership and he wasn't aware of the 7% discount. I planned to pick up a car in September and the specialist said he'd have to check to see how long the discount would last and when the 2005 models would be out.

I also asked MBUSA about the E320 CDI and they told me that it would be a 2005 model but had no idea what states it would be approved for nor when it would be available.

This model was originally scheduled to be imported as a 2001 model.

I'm not interested in a Euro delivery of anything other than the CDI. If it's not going to be available in September, I'll wait until next year and hope to see US models with the four valve, rail injected gas engines available.
