2006 E350 4matic manifold intake
Just had my E350 manifold intake replaced. Dealer wanted $1,200 for the part plus $600 labor. Found original part for $600 in @europarts.com
Dealer agreed to install part for $350 if I could buy the original part cheaper.
Is the manifold intake replacement an issue for E350s with 145,000 miles??
Is there a market place for used manifold intakes? My service guy said there was a market for used manifold intakes. Where should I go...

Yes these I/M tumble flaps break, cause would be dirty engine bay, debris, and things of that sort. Those dealership prices sound correct to me. I would purchase the part from a different vendor and have A dealership install it. You'll need new gaskets, hardware, and injector o-rings.
BTW this is A DIY job. it seems challenging but it really isn't!

I just had mine replaced under my extended warranty at 71k miles. I guess the runner on the intake manifolds is an issue on this car like it was on my VW GTI. Not nearly as common though.

You can also search for 272 intake manifold rebuild and can buy the linkage that's actually the usual cause of failure. Less money than a whole manifold and is still DYI.

Linkage is alternative imo if you know for sure something internally isn't faulty as well.

Any updates on this?
I just got this error and wanted to see if I can save some money on a DIY.
Trying to decide if I can do just the parts or will I need to do the entire intake maniford

There's actually a few videos on youtube about doing the manifold.

The link that breaks is for the tumble flaps, which triggers the fault code.
The parts that break inside are for the variable length manifold.. which can damage the engine if a piece ends up through an intake valve. You could split the manifold and remove all variable length flaps completely, You will never have issues again.

I see the K&N CIA systems for Camaros, Mustangs, trucks, etc in JEGS catalogs (and others)...using a poly/plastic/silicone runner from the throttle body to the filter. It would seem that at least one (or maybe a couple) of these applications might have a size and/or shape RUNNER that would fit onto our TTV12s from the turbo to the radiator support. Has anyone done any research in this area? Sure would be nice to have a "pre-fabbed" factory looking plastic runner without all the hose clamps and BS. I wish I could go out to the Summit Racing store here in Atlanta and pilfer through their entire CIA inventory and see if one of those damn things would fit.
