After installation of new SBC you need to enter new pump into the computer and reset the counter. I heard you can buy cheap scanner on ebay that will erase the counter, but I believe only stealer will give you confirmation on records.
Also seems only SD will let you bleed the brakes.
Well I am going to join this conversation late, my 2005 E320 CDI now needs a new SBC, dealer confirmed that it was going (white light). Not under warranty so can I just buy new/reman one from ECS tuning and replace it myself. Since I am going to replace the whole unit and not take it apart, will I run into a software problem? Can't really get a answer since most seem to just take it to the dealer. Thanks
Go to dealer-no loop hole unless you can find someone with DAS.....

OK fair enough the dealer wants $1400 for the part and $600 for the labor plus tax. At that price I should just look at a buying the computer/scanner myself. I think someone said you can get a nockoff with a Dell and scanner for a good price. Have to figure out where they bought it.

OR you could buy the part yourself and have mb install it. the labor sounds
perfect, the part however is marked up of course just like any dealer. I think people are finding them for half that.
Bit the bullet and made an appointment for middle of next week at the dealer to have the unit replaced out of warranty. Dealer will end up being $1,860 after tax and labor, which was only $260 more than I was quoted at an indy shop. Figured it was worth the added cost to have the dealer perform the service.
Taking the girlfriend and her kiddo on a 12 hour round-trip drive next weekend and want the peace of mind knowing that everyone is safe.

Well got myself a Das, Xentry C3, with developer mode, now just have to find my SBC for sale online. As in which model fits my car since they changed part numbers with updates through the years. Worst comes to worst I will have to buy the part from the dealer.
Did you try huskerparts.com? They seem to sell parts at about 30% off what the dealer charges. Maybe you could call them and they could give you the exact part number if you give them your vin. You could also try looking it up in epcnet, but I'm not sure what part it will give you as the reman part is supposed to be around $800.
That $1860 seems high, most dealers around here offer 10-15% off service coupons on their website and most dealers will price match other dealers. But if you don't have that many dealers in your area, it would hard to do.

They wan't $1398.05 plus tax around 8% here in Arizona last time I looked.
That brings it to $1510 just for the part. Ill call those places tomorrow thanks for the websites.
I should also look into how hard / expensive it is to get and install those new sound dampeners for the SBC while I am at it.
When I shop for parts, I usually put part number in google search and within 90 seconds I have list of hits, where prices usually are posted in headlines.
That said, buying from dealer will be big point in case you decide selling the car in next couple of years, so this is not easy decision, especially when you can buy from internet dealer for about 40% less than from local brick and mortar dealer.
That works if there are aftermarket parts. In this case, I believe the only one who makes a reman part is MB so you have to go to an MB dealer. There are a few other dealers out there that sell OEM MB parts online, but huskerparts has been one of the cheapest I've found so far. There's one or two more that are close though. Another poster had also mentioned that their local dealer would install an MB part bought from another dealer and all work done by MB dealers are covered by a 12 month/12k mile warranty. So you could just get a labor quote and get the part online. Or ask them to price match the online price.

Yeah I plan to keep the car until it's worth more trade in then selling it, love my Mercedes diesels. I just wan't to be sure I got the right SBC, before I just shell out the money. Ill search again tomorrow, today was all about calling and emailing which Das/Xentry will give me controls over my SBC and future Mercedes models specifically the USA diesel if I had the money I would test drive the new S350 Bluetec also the new GLE 300d. Ill defiantly try to call those websites you gave me. I was going to call ECS and eeuroparts missed the call time for today.

Very true, ended up buying the newest model SBC pump from eeuroparts VIN match and called to verify, got 5% Christmas discount, then when I return the core the total will be about $900. I was thinking about also buying the sound damper, but to be honest I really don't see a need for it. Now I am going to get a course with the multiplexer. I refuse to let the dealer win this one. When everything is in ill take photos.

I think this was in response to my post. The breakdown was $1360 for the part after tax and $500 for labor, which was in the ballpark of what I had read elsewhere. Not the most fun way to drop nearly two grand, but if I hang on to the car for two years it works out to about $2.50/day to know that my car isn't going to turn into an unstoppable (or very difficult to stop) hunk of metal when taking an exit ramp at 70 MPH heading towards a stop light.
I'd also imagine that as these cars continue to get higher in mileage and older that having the SBC unit replaced will make for a stronger resale value.
Got everything in went to hookup my Super MB tool, got that pluged in no problems, fully updated das, xentrey but nothing. The RS232 to USB connector I got wont recognize the Star tool. The computer and VMware recognized the cable, however not the star tool. I got a genuine prolific to USB, however nothing. I looked around at the website I bought it from and a couple others. The only cable that I can find that will work with no problems is some weird cable called the Z-TEK USB To RS232 Convert Connector. Apparently it is specifically for the Mercedes C3 and whatever Honda version of star is. Going to have to wait for that to come in to connect to it.

You should get a laptop with genuine serial port, that is reported many many times that USB adapters will not work...

OK then I will head to the store and pick up a PCI-express to serial (Rs232) adapter and try it from there. Google has said that will work, and they are not expensive.
Well I am pretty much stuck with C3 system. No matter what settings I use I cannot connect from my computer to the Star tool. I am emailing the company if I can switch to a Dell D630 hard drive. No matter what I do I get error 21 no signal from the external HDD to pc when running Vmware.
Well I refuse to go to the dealer and the company I bought the Das/star from said they will gladly trade my HDD for the Dell D630 setup one. That everyone else said actually works compared to VMware setup.
Now where to get a reliable dell d630 for my setup.
Unless they are the same not sure if the processor makes a difference in these.
Vmware and external HD is ****. Usb to serial don't waste your time. Pci express will work fine. Rather just install das properly like a genuine machine. What xentry version did u buy?

I bought this version I will send the link to your personal message if you want to read more on it.
Top Version Star Diagnosis V2015.09 Super MB STAR C3
It doesn't have to be a D630. You just need a computer with an RS232 port. A Dell Latitude E5500 works just fine and is several years improved over the D630.
That's sure but the hard drive is for D630, you may need to update drivers or have to deal with other issues, since the D630 without hard drive is really cheap on eBay and for sure will work for STAR, why not go with the easiest and least expensive solution?
