This inexplicable "what-were-they-thinking?" error by M-B in setting up the W211 has been amply discussed in other threads, but I still have to wonder if there is anything we can do about it. Wouldn't the choice between scanning every religious, Spanish-language and C&W station in town, versus only my presets, be in software, not hardware? If in software, couldn't M-B fix its mistake by a software update? The radio on my E500 would go silent and "reboot" at three-minute intervals until the dealer fixed the problem with a software update. If they can fix that, they should be able to design a patch to have the steering wheel buttons select presets.

So, my question would be, is there anyone in the M-B organization to receive such a request and pass it up the D-C chain with some reason to think it will be acted upon? M-B talks the talk of caring what their owners think and want, but do they also walk the walk?

The are surely aware, but probably dont care. Its not worth their time to spend the money on a fix, when it is not a safety or performance issue, simply preference.. sad

We should form some sort of petitition- its rediculous how they have not come out with a patch for this easy to fix annoyance.

The steering wheel can not scan radio memory settings. I have already written to MBUSA about the lack of user configuration. maybe a software update will be issued to correct this issue.

It is obvious that it is a non-issue with MB. We have been talking about this and complaining to MB directly since the W211 came out in late 2002. They have not addressed the issue as far as I know in any way.

Now....the same defect is present in the 2004. Have to think that MB just doesn't care or listen to customers.

But Cup Holders are options that we have to pay for. Unlike our electric folding mirrors that come as standard.

MB has decided it is too costly to retrofit the pre-set scan into the steering wheel buttons, but they are working on a program to repurchase all the cars and provide new 2004's at no cost with the pre-set scan like our friends in the UK. (Unfortunately, they have to put the steering wheel on the right side of the car to make that happen!)

Jim256,

You should have waited with your post for a couple of weeks. That would be a great April 1st joke!
