I think 5.8 is right...the S500 does it in 6.1sec.
The E500 is lighter than the S500...so certainly not out of the question. Also, I think the E500/E500 wagon has the 7-G tranny so i think it's right.

If your right think about this
someone w/2001-2002 S55 AMG(0-60 5.7sec) roles up on the new E500 wagon(0-60 5.8 sec.) and they get in a duel to merge on to the freeway, I'll tell you this I would be pissed to see a soccer mom w/groceries hang w/S55AMG with .1 tenth of sec. between the cars. It can't be right this wagon fully optioned retails 65k
S55AMG 01-02 still fetch 65k, brand new they were 100-115k
Not to mention my 01 S500, that soccer mom would take me out!!
the stigma of being beaten by a station wagon would be humiliating..

what about a S4 wagon taking out your S500 :p
same idea, but sometimes things do suck and in this case, proabably a E500 wagon could/would smoke our S500's But it's all fun, hehe. I doubt a soccer mom would wanna smoke ya...or would she

Edmunds got a 6.1 second zero to sixty mph out of their tester, so 5.8 sec. isn't out of the realm.

Thanks CRB
I couldn't find that info on edmunds last night 6.1 sounds more realistic but still a hell of alot a power! for a station wagon
I new the E500 sedan was capable of 5.8 0-60 , that test drive show must of mixed them up..
That sure would be a great sleeper car imagine, debadged and super charged that would knock off 1.0 -1.3 sec properly tuned w/computer remaping 4.8sec-5.1sec 0-60
I'll definitley be looking out for those wagons

2004 E500
The show was Motorweek. They were surpised too that they got 5.8 since that was the time they also reported for the E500 sedan they had tested a while back... and the sedan weighed 400lbs less.

Build date 2-04 E500
I would suspect the 7 speed trans has a lot to do with the 0-60 number the wagon produced.... Motorweek probably tested last years e500 sedan with the 5 speed and if retested now would see better numbers as well.....

2004 E320 Wagon
The 7 speed is not available on any 4Matic for the current model year, sedan or wagon. This wagon is a real sleeper! If you cut out a lot of the "nice to have" options you can get it for much less than 85K.

I don't know why Mercedes wagons or any other luxury wagons are so underrated. I used to drive Subaru Forester and its much practical than sedan and you don't get that looks when you're in Subaru. But once you get in Mercedes Wagon everyone's like eehhh...
BTW here's a few head to heads.
