Whining Noise when Accelerating and Deceleration
Hello. Have a 2007 E350 4MATIC with 223,000km. I find that there is a whining noice when accelerating lightly. Not full throttle and when you decelerate. Usaully when you haven't started the car for a little bit.
It doesn't happen on idle. And only happens once in a while. Not every time. Any ideas?

I had the same problem. it's the roller for the pulley. It makes supercharger kinda noise
I think the name is "Mercedes-Benz Drive Belt Tensioner Idler Pulley"

2005 E320 Sedan
I just went through a similar thing with my E320 2005. I took belt off and started for 5 seconds and sound went away. I then got a shorter belt and by passed the a/c compressor and started car again and had no whining sound. (A/C compressor)

Have dealer check VMI to see if 2008070002 applies to your VIN and confirm if it was completed. If applicable and not completed, they should diagnose noise if it still exists after pulley replacement for free. If it turns out to be AC compressor see attached bulletin for DIY repair.

Fan?
I'm not sure if my 04E320 uses an electric fan or a clutch fan. It sounds as if it whines when it warms up especially in summer so I'm thinking clutch fan?

Press the 0 button in the center of your climate control. Does the noise go away? Press it again, does it come back?

I concur with Idler Pulley
This is a wear out part - not expensive and super easy to do.
