SAT on 2003s?
Anyone have any information on the possibility of installing Sirius SAT radio on COMAND-equipped 2003 E-classes?
Mine is one of those famous "navigation replacement" cars. The COMAND does have the "SAT" button.

'04 E Class Satellite
Mine was installed last week on Long Island. $1295 including 14 months subscription. Kits in this area are being rationed. Dealer must supply a vin to get a kit. Expensive but I love it.

BillP - To answer your question. I too have an '03 replacement. I had asked my dealer a while ago when I noticed the SAT button, but they told me the '03's weren't pre-wired. I just opened my trunk and the liner on the underside of the trunk lid has a hump in it right where the antenna is placed on the outside. If your vehicle also has this and your want to pull that liner open, if you see a wire or two terminating where that hump is, it means your vehicle is pre-wired. I'm going in to the service dept. on Thursday and I'm going to have them look.
Even if the vehicle is not pre-wired, it could still be retofitted. You would just have to pay to have the wiring run to the different locations. I would bet the head unit is the same as the '04's.

Reception
Reception is flaweless. The antenna must be line of sight to the satellite in space, so if you are in traffic under an overpass for more than 6 seconds (the buffer time) it will go silent. Otherwise it is CD quality with few interruptions by a DJ

If your car was pre wired for it (SAT button on face) the dealer orders the kit from MB which includes the satellite receiver, antenna, & small parts. It becomes "part of the comand system" fully integrated... undetectable from a "factory installation.

My neighbor just tried to get sat radio retrofitted on his 2003 E320 yesterday. He told me that after about 4 hours of labor, the dealer gave up and said his car wasn't prewired and that it's not possible to retrofit sat radio. He did say the dealer did contact Mercedes in trying to install it.

I just had my Sirius installed last week. Sound is great! the only problem is ...too much to choose from! I spend so much time channel surfing I don't listen to just one channel for very long.
Installed with tax & all came to about $1K.
Don't let them tell you to install it you need to drill a hole in your trunk lid. (MB recomends that the antenna be placed dead center on your trunk lid) When properly placed, you can hide the antenna completly and still get signal.

Eddie,
I picked up the method from T-Bone. Here's the thread with his photos that I used to show my MB tech guy how to install it.
