sirius sat radio question
dealer just called to let me know that sirius radio is now available to install in my 04 e500 4matic. quoted me price of $870 + tax and includes 1 yr service.
questions-
1)- does price sound right ?
2) has anyone seen antenna they use?
salesman said it was a small square box
that gets mounted on trunk....doesnt
sound to nice.
as always , any input would be 'preciated !!!

Look Here
I had it done in my '04 E500. Had 1 antenna railure/replacement already. You'll get used to seeing these antennas on cars from now on. The antenna is smaller than it looks. Reception is great. I paid $1150. incld 14 months of svc here on Long Island, so your price sounds good to me.
Check Out The Antenna Pix
Satellite is here to stay, & will do to FM, what FM did to AM.
The antenna measures as follows: Front to back 3 1/4 inches. Side to side 2 1/4 inches at its widest part. Top (tallest part) to trunk lid 1 1/4 inches. To put it into perspective, the circle of the Mercedes logo on the trunk lid is bigger than the front to back measurement of the antenna, and a third larger than the antenna’s width. At 1 1/4 inches tall at the highest point, (and the antenna does slope) it is barely visible in the rear view mirror. It is a small price to pay for a fully integrated satellite radio installation with nothing else visible in the car.

"SIRIUS satellite radio is available as a dealer installed option on most
2004 and newer Mercedes-Benz vehicles (with the exception of '04 SLK-Class and
C-Class Coupe, and early production model year '04 M-Class). SIRIUS satellite
radio can be installed by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships for $679 plus
installation, which includes a one year paid subscription plus two bonus
months of free service for a total of 14 months of service. SIRIUS
installation can also be included in a customer's lease, making satellite
radio even more affordable."

psyrtash, i just got the same info from my stock alert. I bought Sirius 6 months ago.. and today they finally announce MB's availability. Let alone, now I'm not negative on the stock.
fair price, I'd say about 200 for install is right. No way in hell I'd do it on the trunk. I will shoot for rear deck.

Total installed was about $1K. He said it added about two hours labor. (but he was happy to do it that way. He was just as nervous about drilling into my trunk lid as I was)
Dealer was Coppes Motors in Tiffin Ohio.
Ask for Frank Longo.
Good luck!

ex-beemer - what kind of instructions did you provide your dealer in order to get it installed under the rear dash? Did he have to reinvent the wheel again, or did t-bone provide you with enough documentation to at least save some time. I'd like to get this installed on my E500, but would if some how-to steps are already available that would help my dealer, then I'd love to get my hands on those.

Kyee,
The best things to show your tech are color photos of the install. Check out this thread and show it to your tech he should be able to do it easily enough.
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=66386
With that info my tech had no problem. When you understand that the antenna works through plastic & glass it makes it easier to find a place to mount it.
I can't figure why your dealerships are telling you that the radios are not available unless MB has exausted their supply already.
It's great though...just finished running an errand listening to the Raw Dog comedy channel...very funny. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Plus one more bonus with Sirius is that, as a subscriber, you can listen to the streams on your PC for free.
Good Luck!

How does the Sirius sound quality compare to a CD? Is it the same quality? Or just better than FM radio?
I'd heard that Sirius used a higher compression than XM, and the sound quality suffered as a result.
I've never heard Sirius, although I did listen to XM pretty extensively.

Sound quality is really good but not quite CD quality. Call it the best radio signal you've ever had. Crystal clear, but doesn't have the nuances of a CD.
I on the other hand have never heard XM except in the store. I'm guessing they're similar.
It's an expensive radio but well worth it. I play it all the time.

some slow@$$diesels
to be honest...with an antenna like that on the trunk I wouldn't want sat radio
As the US W211s aren't available with infrared glass anyways - MBUSA could have figured out an underdeck GPS antenna theirselves...
greetingz,
