COMAND playing DVD

How much did everyone pay to convert their COMAND system to play regular movies while they drive. This will be the second mod that I do to the car, right after I change the ridiculous halogen on the two inside lights, and change the "Mood" lights to black lights.

if its even possible y would you change the mood light to a black light??

also our us comands suck, i don't think we can get the dvd playback or mp3 option. we would have to convert it to a euro spec version for now to get those features

I read that the '05 C-class will have DVD Comand. The '05 SL-class will also have DVD Comand. When will the US E-class follow suit?

C-class is getting DVD Nav Drive. Not DVD command. The command unit will be like the 04 W211 which does not allow DVD play back, and there is no way to modify it.

The only way is to find a euro spec command and replace the us spec command.

No I do not mean the DVD COMAND system. I know tons o people who have DVD driven navigation systems, like the one that I am getting, that have bypassed the "wall" so that you can be driving down the road and watch a movie. I know it is possible on this car, I am just seeing if anybody has here, and if so how much.

As for the Black Lights, I like a very lit up interior, and with the ash interior, it will light up alot. Plus it ups the "cool" factor for us.

like i said. The only possible way to do that is to change the command to european spec to allow DVD as well as TV capabilities. Which will cost you close to $4k.

So how is it possible to have a DVD navigation system without the COMAND system being able to accept a DVD? Does not make sense.

On the European models, there are 2 DVD players. One in the trunk for navigation-DVD's, and one above the COMAND screen. The latter can play DVD films, and now also MP3's

US spec comand headunits have a CD drive installed...euro spec comand headunits have a DVD drive installed...

DVD nav is done per nav drive that is installed in the trunk of the car.

Well then the Nav dirver in the trunk WILL be able to read a DVD. I know for a fact it has been done WITH a US spec version I have personally seen it at the dealer. The salesman even told me that he sends everyone over to this specific place that does it, I just would prefer not to go thru them from a prior experiance.

If that can be done, then kudo's to the dealer. However, I seriously doubt that fact.

A lot of OEM has DVD-ROM Nav drive. None of them can output DVD movies to the screen.

I think it is just a matter of manipulating the software. Maybe adding an input line.

The DVD drive is connected to the headuniy through FIBER and besides the fiber it has a power, ground and wake up wire...that is all...nothing one can add to that.

So you can't play DVD's even if your not moving? Dealer wasn't sure.
