Tire Rotation Question
How often do you get your tires rotated?
Is it included under scheduled maint?
If NOT, how much are dealers charging ?
Is it ok to just go to one of those "mega" tire and rim stores and have it done there?
Thanks ( i have 5300 miles now...and i think its time)

I feel your driving conditions and habbits have a lot to do with tire rotation intervals... My wife and I drive very rural windy roads everyday to town and this is very hard on our tires. I have them religiously rotated every 5000.

*Rotated* is kind of a misnomer. Actually, they should be swapped front to back and not crossed.
No matter who does it, the lug bolts should be tightened using a torque wrench and not an impact wrench. Another thing to watch is that the correct tire pressures have been applied after the swap.
I don't drive all that many miles but I usually swap them twice a year or after a very long trip.

Rotate!
I rotate every 5K miles on all my cars. Don't wait for the A or B service interval to rotate tires....it's too long. Most dealers will do it for free during the warranty if you ask them. Tire outlets will rotate them if you don't mind them using impact wrenches instead of a torque wrench to tighten them and who knows what jacking points. I only rotate front/back, not crossed.

would someone explain the dangers of impact wrench vs. torque wrenches?
Do the MB dealers use torque?
If tightened with an impact wrench, what can i do??

Impact vs. torque wrench....
An impact wrench does not limt the torque that is applied to the wheel bolts and usually over tightens. Some feel this can cause rotors to warp. A torque wrench provides even and recommended torque to all the wheel bolts.

thanks..i just want to make sure that my tires are safely installed..
i have always had my tires installed with an impact air wrench..however sometimes i notice a manual torque wrench being used. In your opinion, should i have them re torqued? or just wait until the next rotation in 6 months?
just concerned about safety
