Mercedes bluetooth interface ordered

I just ordered a bluetooth unit for the w211. I thought I'd take a shot at it. I will keep everyone posted on my results. Mercedes actually makes one and just recently released it to public but not in the USA.

does Verizon have any bluetooth phones?

I emailed Verizon about a month ago, no blue tooth and none found when I searched their products. I went looking for one to get and found some motorola ones but they are priced about $500, less when activated by providers other than Verizon.

Let me get the part first and I will let everyone know about it. It's looks like a cellphone and fits in the center console. It has the keypad on it also with the bluetooth antennas inside the unit. I will let everyone know everything about it once I get my hands on it. Should be about 1 week.

Be careful now. There are two kinds of Bluetooh systems for the W/S211. There is one system where you connect an ordinary cell phone equipped with Bluetooth to the COMAND, meaning that you can operate the cell phone from the steering wheel and the COMAND’s keys. The cell phone is placed in an UHI (Universal Handy Interface) in the middle console. The UHI unit supply power to the cell phone, and also connect to the antenna. Today, UHI interfaces can be bought for Noika and Siemens cell phones, and SonyEricsson coming up.

The other one is called MB WAP. This unit consists of a Bluetooth handset in the middle console. But on this system, the cell phone unit is inside the COMAND. The handset itself has no radio built in (except for the short-range Bluetooth transmitter/receiver). This handset could be operated within 10 meters from the car, and is produced by Motorola.

oslo, I believe it's the second one. I will take pics of it when I get it in. As for XM radio, it's in the trunk and display mounted in ashtray. The output is connected to the aux input of the comand system.

Verizon should have Bluetooth soon.

I was told late spring or early summer, which I translate to June. It will be a Motorola V710.

Verizon ...

Well the Moto V710 should be coming-out in the next couple of weeks.

I would love to have the Phone Integrated into my CLK. Lets hope this mod will work-out.

Sunman, we are anxiously awaiting your results

Verizon is notorious for delaying phones, and the v710 should be no exception. I expect to see the v810 before we see the v710, and that is what is coming out soon, from what I know.

I've been waiting for the v710 as well. I could be very wrong on this, but my personal prediction for the v710 is later June to July.

Ok, I finally got the interface it and not good news. The interface is actually a bluetooth handset that fits in the center console. The main brain should be in the comand system according to Oslo. This unit is like a small phone and has a full keypad and menu system. It recoginizes other blue tooth devices and is a w211 part number. I am guessing that is the future bluetooth interface for the 2005 E class. It has a battery inside as well and charges when put in the cradle. It's made partly by motorola and Peiker. It links fine to my v600 Motorola bluetooth phone instantly. It has a 3 pin connector on the bottom for charging. This interface is used in conjunction with something else though. It may be in the comand but I am not sure. According to the Workshop Manual WIS, there is a 5-6 pin connector in the center console area which I assume to be for the master bluetooth interface which ties into the rest of the car. We'll have to wait a bit though but it does look promising for the coming months. My EPC for 11/2003 does not show any bluetooth parts except a antenna mounted in the rear C pillar area near the roof. THe EPC has all parts for the UHI interface which is currently available in Europe but I think MB has held off on introducing it in the USA becuase there are no Suitable cradles made yet that will support US based phones like Verizon, Sprint, and even GSM. THe Nokia Cradle which I have supports the 6310i but even then it's a triband phone good for ATT and T-Mobile only. THe siemens cradle should be out any day but that's no good for us in USA either. We'll have to wait for the full bluetooth unit or a v600 Cradle is in the works that should work with the UHI unit. All USA cars are prewired for the Bluetooth according to my WIS.

Sunman,

When you say all 2005 cars are pre-wired, do you just mean E class or others such as the SL?

Thanks sunman for that extensive report. At least all the infrastrastructure is there for the add-on, come the upgrade.

I don't have the EPC for other cars. Just teh CLK, C , and E class so I don't know if others are prewired or not.

Sunman, have you had the ability to compare UHI and bluetooth interfaces for install issues and for functionality? I've in the queue for an 05 E500 to be delivered in July, and I want to use my Moto v600. One of your posts said there wasn't a cradle for the v600, but if there are corded connections and we had a wiring diagram, why couldn't we splice a cab;e in and then just leave the phone in the upper armrest compartment w/o a cradle. Is it an external antenna connection that would be missing? I put in a Moto full install handsfree kit in a 04 E320, which works OK, but no stereo muting and no Comand/steering wheel controls, so I am looking for better on the new car.

My understanding is that the COMAND sends MB specific commands to the phone, so even if you spliced up a cable, the phone may not work since it is not an "MB firmware phone".

I know there is some debate about this in the forums (do you have to have an MB V60 to plug into the cradle), but this is what I've been told.

Thanks abhansali, but what I was talking about was the UHI interface -- or the bluetooth, not the existing US phone options. I know you can only use a MB v.60 in the current system (if MIkbox works maybe that changes but you'd still have to have (at high cost) the standard phone interface in the car). The UHI and bluetooth -- now available in Europe -- are supposed to let you use a wider range of phones and not be trapped into the v.60, which is a little long in the tooth already. I have a v.600 and my objective is to interface it via UHI or bluetooth to the steering wheel and Comand controls in my upcoming 05 E500.
