I assume I should contact a local dealer to see if any recall service has been performed regarding the fuel system?
As Konigstiger mentioned, it's just an extended warranty. Do not contact your dealer as there's no recall. It's basically a 15 year extended warranty for non Pzev W211 cars with unlimited miles. Pzev already had a 15/150k warranty on the tank so it's worse if you're a Pzev with over 150k. On a 2004, coverage probably expires sometime in 2018 or 2019 depending on the in service date of the car which you can either get from the VMI at a dealer or the carfax. I would fill up the gas tank and sniff around the back seat to make sure you don't smell gasoline. I'd double check again just before your 15 years is up.

I am a 2008 PZEV. I have already paid an Indy $3200 for fuel pump and tank which I would like to get reimbursed. I was told to take the work order down to my local MB dealer and see if I can get it reimbursed.

If your PZEV you do qualify for a 15 year/150k mile warranty. I head a dealer replace my entire fuel tank a few weeks ago under that warranty.

Have you seen pictures of what the tank looks like under the rear seats? I would like to see what it looks like. Since no one has left any pictures or vin numbers you are only going by what the mb crooks are telling you.
Unless you can show me proof that the tank is sealed then I call bs.

Guess that's the price you pay for being green. I'm sure Gretta is pleased with their choice.

I believe the Pzev tank is different from the regular tank so it can have the Pzev designation. In theory it might be possible to use the non pzev part in a pzev vehicle, it just wouldn't qualify as pzev anymore. But if you're paying the bill instead of Mercedes, that would probably be a much cheaper way to go than the official way.

Getting the fuel pump and sender out of a PZEV fuel tank involves cutting the tank open then welding it back together. Yes, it's steel. Good luck with that $80 fuel pump idea.
