2009 E350 4matic
09 w211 help

I have a 2009 e350 4matic.

I replaced the left front cv axle with a OEM GKN part. and the issue I'm having is the car vibrates while stopped in drive and reverse. the cv axle is supposed to be OEM spec and shouldn't have an issue. I'm not sure if it could potentially be the axle bolt not being torqued to spec or what. but the issue wasn't there before the axle was replaced.

Im looking for the torque specs for the axle bolt.
and also looking for the repair manual.

Also I've done a bunch of searching but I'm not able to find exactly what I'm looking for.

thanks in advance.

If you check out a bunch of stuff, it will turn out to be the axle. The aftermarket ones are no good and the OEM ones are about 1k. Did you save the old one? I'd get that one rebuilt although I don't know of anyone who does a good job rebuilding them. Maybe you can find one that's oem and has been rebuilt.

the cv axle that i got is supposed to be OEM. its just not genuine mercedes. pelican parts listed GKN as an OEM supplier. could it potentially be a cv axle bolt not torqued correctly ?

It vibrates while not moving? If so it's not an axle.

It's not your axle. Think about it, you have a vibration when the car is stopped. A bad axle will only cause a vibration when the car is moving. Most likely you have bad engine mounts.

Good to know that you think a bad axle will cause a vibration when the vehicle is not moving.

You're welcome. Just search the old threads. Same thing happened with me, used a new non OEM axle. Cardone I think. Old threads blame the axle. I already had my motor mounts replaced the year before so I don't think it's the mount. Several other threads had people chasing the same thing, mounts, bushings, etc., til they finally ended up back with the axle. Mine didn't have any vibration before the axle change, and had the vibration after the axle change. Going to get the old one rebuilt, but haven't found a good place to do it yet. Axle is connected to the transmission. Once you put it into drive, you get the vibration. Not much when it's just in park or neutral.

Wow

So when the car is in drive and not moving the axle is moving and causing a vibration? Is the axle moving more when it's in drive versus being in park or neutral and the car is stationary?

Vibration is probably being transferred from the engine. It doesn't have to spin to cause a vibration. Something to do with aftermarkets being solid instead of hollow.

Ok, you may be correct. I checked out the threads and a resonating vibration does make sense. The way you worded your post made it sound like the axle rotated when the car was not moving.

I've seen plenty of your posts and was hoping you'd prove me wrong as I know you're not an idiot.

I had my original genuine Mercedes axle rebuilt and had that put back in. fixed the issue. no more vibration.

GKN is taking their part back and giving me a full refund.
